Has United always let you book > 4 hour domestic connections on award
Was looking at award seats to HNL. see flight options arriving SFO at 9am and departing SFO at 430pm. Was thinking about using singapore miles to try and get those flights but they told me no availability.
was wondering why and then realized that the connection is over 4 hours so maybe that's why SQ won't find it. Has UA always allowed this?

For UA mileage "domestic" award, >4 hour break is considered a stopover which in this case would require extra miles.
Exception to 4 hour rules -- no flight in the 4 hour period, so next available flight is OK.

But there is a 930am and 1040am from SFO-HNL. So the 405pm is not the next flight. I don't believe that when they say available they mean award availability.
It is also possible that UA isn't releasing the award inventory to partners. Have you looked via Aeroplan or ANA to see if it is "out there" rather than just on UA's site?

I have often been offered domestic connections on award flights that have a far greater than 4 hour connection and where there are intervening flights.

That's definitely true if you're using UA miles, but he's trying to use SQ miles so he'd be following their stopover/connection rules so it may be different (I have no idea what SQ policies are)

I guess. I just booked a trip so I know its obviously possible. Any idea when the rules would or would not prohibit it. Seems like its up to the computer. I am not able to force anything using multi-city itinerary. So sometimes the website offers it and sometimes it doesn't. Can't do anything beyond that?

Why are you asking in a UA thread when using SQ? Different airline different rules.

I am not asking about SQ. I was specifically asking with reference to UA miles. I just mentioned that I was contemplating using SQ miles. In the end I did use UA miles.

How does this figure in on international awards with domestic segments though? I have a flight where I get into ORD around dinner time, and don't depart for IAD until morning (not on the first flight). The itinerary is headed overseas, but it's a one-way so a stopover wouldn't be permitted. It ticketed fine.
