Wow! I didn't see it coming! Give it chance to get some more competition against B6 & VX.
It makes sense. FLL was a mini hub for sCO, the planes were/ are/ will be there, having one make a turn to SFO and vv. This should mesh well, I am guessing it will be a 737 route.

The way that UA is adding service to FLL (coupled with those island hoppers to Bahamas and such), I'm wondering if UA is seriously considering making FLL into a focus city ?
Maybe if they could market it as "Miami area (FLL)" it could work.

Didn't US try that a few years ago?
It seems to typically price lower than MIA, so I'm not sure about much of a revenue premium. But if they add Caribbean connections out of there and had good timings, that may increase the revenue a bit.

New York/Newark
Miami/Fort Lauderdale
LOL
But to some extent, it makes sense. PBI isn't big enough, and MIA has the AA stronghold.

They are probably losing Asia/Australia business to OneWorld based on AA's MIA-West Coast nonstops. This puts them in the South Florida game for those markets, especially for Australia where the schedules match up. For Asia, one would really have to connect on Star carriers to avoid spending the night in SFO. Eastbound, the schedule is rougher for connections and looks like it requires an overnight.
