Fight cancelled entitlements ?
So today my flight from hnl-lax got cancelled my mum and myself were in F . We had a connecting flight in l.a that we have now missed back to Sydney.
They re-booked us on the next flight out of hnl However there is a 7 hour wait . They gave us a $20 meal coupon to use in the airport lounge and also access to the united club here in hnl.
There are a few questions I wondering because we were booked in F there was only 1 F seat left and then they stuck me in Y . Secondly our connecting flight is a 17 hour layover in l.a . We arrive at something like 5am and then depart at 10pm the same day. The agent in Honolulu said we need to go to the counter to get some hotel vouchers and meal coupons. Then the lounge attendants said we don't get any hotel vouchers because its not overnight.
So I'm wondering what to do firstly with the Y flight they downgraded me to and also where to go to get these hotel coupons and I need to know if we are entitled to them. Also what hotels does united use .
Hawaiian flies nonstop to SYD tomorrow noon and its wide open in F & J. I'd sure as hell be on that flight.
likewise, can't you ask for (or demand) Air NZ? It leaves at 9:35 tonight (flight #9 connecting to #101) and has availability in both Y and C (plus it's a Star Alliance partner).
What's the reason for cancellation? If it's their fault, I think they should be on the hook for this. What cabin was your LAX-SYD booked in?
Also, if they insist that going out of LA on UA tomorrow night is the only option, and you're already in Y as it is, there's no reason they can't fly you out tomorrow and put you up in a hotel here tonight.
I have tried but this is a award ticket with us airways they keep telling me they biting the bullet here .
Am I still entitled to the AirNZ flight ..
Google and quote to UA agent: star alliance endorsement waiver, rule 240. UA can absolutely take control in this situation, even with underlying US ticket stock.
Yes, and it's UA's cancellation, so UA should do the rebook/reissue.
Are you in the United Club? They should be able to do it.
I'm with Channa on this - you might have to be insistent. While I can see why they wouldn't want to put you on Hawaiian or JetStar (even though they should in my opinion), remind them that the Air NZ option is Star Alliance and is "only" 7 hours from the original departure time. (It gets to syd at 8:30am)

Yes I'm currently in the united club now waiting for this flight in 3 hours.
It is united fault about the mechanical problem of the aircraft . I wouldn't mind but I'm in Y I would love a direct flight . My whole trip is in business class.
I did google the star alliance endorsement waiver, rule 240 only comes up with AA.com
I always push for the the most direct in these situation even if its on a non *A carrier and in Y. Sometimes you need to call the other carrier or show the agents the website to convince them it's available.

Mechanical... Wow, they REALLY tried to pull one over on you. They basically need to get you out on the next available flight. Polite, but firm insistence my friend.

As best as I can tell, the non-stops aren't until tomorrow, JetStar at 8:15am and Hawaiian at 11:50. At least the NZ option leaves tonight, and once in AKL, there's plenty of options to SYD should a further problem arise.
