Doesn't a person need to get to point A in order to take advantage of the lowest fare on ANY airline? If the cheapest price for a ticket is from IAD-JFK and a person doesn't start out near the first airport what's the difference if it's cheaper than from LAX-SAN and the passenger lives in L.A., and not Falls Church?
AAA grade eggs are cheaper in Denver than here in Vegas, but so what?

I just assumed the question was asked out of curiosity, not necessarily any intention to purchase a ticket or fly the route. And surely something is cheaper in Vegas than it is in Denver.

There's a reason behind this question..i would bet it concerns a voucher or an ETC.

O.K., but I still don't get it?
Without making this a game of "69" answers, wouldn't one want to start from a certain airport instead of asking for people to provide him with the very lowest price in the entire system from anywhere to anywhere?
Or is this question a replacement for tryptophan because all the turkey sandwiches are gone?

one case, someone trying to convert a canceled flight credit in a particular name to an e-cert useable by anyone. Book a cheapr throwaway ticket and the residual is converted to a generic e-cert.
To the people who don't know why this question is being asked, there are legitimate scenarios when it's helpful. If you don't understand, don't worry; you're not missing out on much and you really don't need to know.
To everyone else, please don't divulge this information. These tricks being overly abused are the reason why things like the cash option on the website are disappearing.
I'm sure I'm going to be reamed out for this post, but I'm tired of losing the small benefits of knowing how the system works. The information is all over flyertalk, so anyone who actually wants to learn can easily find it.
