(I think) a flight attendant stole my chicken (from my dinner)

Was on a flight yesterday second to last row in F. Flight attendant asks if I want a chicken salad or chipolte wrap. I order the salad she comes back and said catering forgot to put chicken on the last two salads. I say OK not much of a choice

Couple of hours into the flight I go to use the toilet in Y to stretch my legs and see one of the FAs unwrapping a napkin with the exact same chicken missing from my salad. I know what it looks like because I saw the tray of another pax.

Thought I had seen it all...

Speechless. Well, just enough speech to say I'm speechless.

The poor chicken. I wonder if the law of the departure city, the arrival city, or the jurisdiction over which the crime was uncovered, will govern the choice of law at the trial.

I saw this and figured it was on one of the Guam-Manila flights where they bring live chickens aboard!

Too bad you couldn't have taken a picture. It would have been as priceless as the club agent yammering on the phone and cutting her nails (or whatever it was).

You never know what the facts are. Perhaps, just perhaps...

1) The chicken was partially eaten by a passenger and sent back
2) The chicken fell on the ground, and the FA did the 5 second rule
3) The FA saved an extra meal from an earlier flight
4) The FA saved the meal for him/ her self (per the OP's post).

I don't know enough about UA meals and catering to know if there is a good explanation to this.

But if true, I would consider this a pretty serious infraction. It is very likely that this FA does this quite frequently, and by eating in the Y galley is rather unlikely to get caught. If UA could prove this happened it should be taken seriously, with punishment of suspension or termination. If I knew an employeed of mine was taking things from the company that detracted from the customer experience, that would be my response.

or it was the crew meal

To leap to the conclusion, the crew member stole the meal is getting a bit far fetch based on no real evidence.

It is a little weird that the crew meal would come wrapped in a napkin, but it's true you can't know the whole story.

OP, did you consider asking the FA?

"Excuse me, I can't help but notice you seem to have some chicken there, in your napkin. It looks a lot like the chicken I expected on my salad. Did catering forget to put it on my salad, but remember to put it in your napkin?"

Perhaps she's a kind of kleptomaniac. It could be worse - wallets, watches, cell phones... some (likely) undercooked chicken doesn't seem so bad? This is starting to sound like a sitcom.

If it is wrapped by a napkin, that's all I need to know - the FA stole the chicken.

So FA got wild? First, bananas. Then, chicken.

What's next - "Sorry, our caterer did not load up anything...Eat yourself..."

I've actually seen this happen with the snack basket on a flight between SFO and LAX....nothing was offerred to the passengers but the FAs seemed to be free to help themselves to it. If you're going to be too lazy to hand it out with the drinks like you are suppose to, at least don't have the gall to pick snacks for yourself in full view of other passengers. I emailed customer care about it if I remember correctly.
