I am hoping someone will have some advice for me... Back in July, I booked tickets using miles for 2 passengers and my lap child departing in Dec from Austin TX to Chennai, India. The route as partly United and partly Lufthansa. In October I called Lufthansa to do seat assignment and they could not find me on the flight. So I called back United and they told me the best they could do was cancel the reservation! After an hour and a half on the phone, and escalating to the supervisor, they managed to confirm my seats.
I decided to check on my return flight in February, which was business class for myself and a lap child via Qatar Airways and United. Same problem with that and I called back to United. Same hour and a half, same supervisor escalation and the problem was solved. Except Qatar Airways still cant find my reservation. I have an eticket issued well before the merger ended, and it says in their website that those tickets will be honored. Yet when I called back the United call center (this time it went to Philippines, the previous 2 times to India) After another very frustrating hour and half, I do not have a ticket or an alternative! Any way I can solve this?
Id send everything you have showing the QR flights to UAInsider and hope they can get to the bottom of it. If QR says there isnt a res, not much UA can do but get you onto some *A flights back instead.I dont see UA purchasing you the seats on QR
Thanks for the advice. I will try UAInsider. There really are no viable solutions that they are offering. Their alternative is a 3 stop journey that takes an extra 10 hours, all with a lap child! As of now, I am stranded despite having made plans in July!

well if you booked it in July you knew full well that QR was braking off its partnership with UA, which meant if things hit the fan youd be SOL. Seems you gambled and lost. If I had a lap child I probably never would have booked QR just for this reason
Well actually I chose to believe the United website and the representative that booked the ticket who claimed that if it was booked before September 14 2012 that it will be honored as ticketed. I even had issues with the Lufthansa part of my departure flight, and that partnership sure hasn't ended. I believe the fault here lies with United and not with my 'gamble.' Also my husbands return journey, booked at the same time on Qatar is ticketed, no problem.

Did you give LH and Qatar the PNRs for their bookings, or the United one?

I gave them the PNRs for their bookings. Qatar can't even find me on the passenger list and United admitted they were at fault. They are just not willing to do anything about it!

It may in fact lie with UA but some folks have had problems with VS once they too dissolved their partnership with UA. If I wasnt flying alone then my choice would have been to stand clear of QR or VS once it meant I was gonna be flying after the Relationship has ended, but thats me I wouldnt want to gamble that everything goes AOK while Im 1/2 way around the world somewhere and UA no longer is able to comple the other Carrier to do anything

I think you need to reset your expectations. UA cannot now give you a Qatar seat via miles. Look at your viable options within the *Alliance, and force UA to book those for you with miles. (By viable, look for revenue seating, not just award seating).

are you saying they wont do anything regarding getting you back here or that they wont pay for a QR flight? If they are willing to reroute you then they Are willing to do something but its simply not to your liking and I wouldnt expect UA to pay QR for any seat yet alone a J fare
I just saw aacharya's post above my last 1 . You need to find a combo of *A carriers with flights that work for you and present that to UA, it would be easier if you use UA metal as much as you can
They are anxious to refund my money but thats about it. They have hardly any availability and are willing to reroute me onto an itinerary with 3 stops and an extra 10 hours flying time. I'm not really looking for a QR flight, I just want a decent option.

Take my advice. Look it up yourself.

I take it you meant your Miles and not money
But yes its an option that is in UA lap, I got that many times after a schedule change that meant a 60 min layover went to close to 5hrs and I was refused changing my Desination to another airport nearby (LAarea) When I didnt go along I got the well I can always simply refund you your $$ and you can go rebook whatever you want, sure now for well over 2x what I paid. Its an option that eitehr we or any carrier can apply
Unfortuantely you need to forget about QR for now and instead find whatever combo of *A flights has room and works for you and be flex if possible about leaving a day before or after you were suppose to
