What class (code) do upgrades to C/F post into?

On ORD-SFO-HNL; HNL-LAX-ORD I am able to buy up to first for about $900 each way. I am considering doing it on the outbound since I suspect that is a tougher complimentary premier upgrade route, esp ORD-SFO.

But is the buy up enough to get me 1.5x EQM on those segments? That would be enough to get me over the hump to platinum without having to take another flight in Dec as I am about 1200 miles short based on current bookings.

Also, I used a regional cert to upgrade my travel companion and all segments cleared instantly except for ORD-SFO.

Tried a search, and did not see anything definitive. Anyone have any knowledge on this one?

Cheers

Not sure about Y to F buy-ups.

But, I did a Y to C buy-up on a flight to Latin America. It booked into Z.

Be careful with buy-ups. If it's a true fare difference, you're fine.

If not, you made for a very expensive Y ticket.

Best in your case to book something ~600 miles and use award accelerator to get 1200 miles for less than $150.

Buy-up resulted in S - P at -24

Purchased one for my wife the other day as the PNR was auto split on a return leg with us split (even with checking the boxes to avoid) the buy-up prior at just under 24 hours was moved from S to P.

Also had to chuckle that the buy-up at that point was cheaper than what was offered prior to CPU as a 1K.

Usually M through F for 1Ks, B through F for Plats/Golds/Silvers, and Z through F for general members...

That is based on my experience for advance buy ups... In theory, often buy-ups into Z and P books into an "UP" fare, but those UP fares are considered paid F/C fares for accrual purposes.

Urgent question

Hello,
I am checking in from YYZ to SFO then to ICN.
When I am checking in they are giving me a choice to upgrade. If I upgrade do I get regular miles or Business Class miles.

I look forward in hearing from you.

you will get whatever the fare basis is on your Purchased tkt, your fare basis doesnt change to C it remains K or whatever it is. No different then if you were say on a W and used a GPU to Upgrade , your fare is still a W and you dont earn any extras for being in Biz

Yes, if UA 747 metal, then it has flat beds. If you are > 6feet tall stay down strairs. If < 6 feet, upder deck is best. But, this is my personal experiance and there are some that might say just stick with upper deck.

Off course I but am not sure if the business class is worth it on the 747. Never tried it.

It depends what price you were offered and what pain tolerance you have sitting in Y on the 747 (not a pleasant experience for me personally, but still alive to talk about it).

Not too bad. Do you have to pay, or is someone else on the hook for it?

Do you have to work when you get to ICN?
