IME, agents don't really look at the amount offered by the kiosk, and it's better to get your name on the list early. You can then haggle for an amount at the gate -- the GA will offer whatever they think they need to offer and not what the machine said anyway.

100% agree that this amount really had no bearing to what the final offer could be, or if the flight is even overbooked. Still amusing though...

I agree it's amusing. I just wanted to put that out there in case you refused because of the amount but would be interested in a VDB for a "real" amount!

Hahaha that picture is hilarious!
+1 I haven't witnessed any indication of a volunteer being held to the kiosk amount. I try to get on the list as early as possible no matter what the supposed offer is

I think my favorite kiosk VDB moment is when I've paid the $75 to change to an earlier flight because of schedule needs, then get the "One of your flights today may be overbooked, would you be interested in maybe taking a later flight and earning a $150 travel certificate?"
Because yes, if I had wanted to fly later, I definitely would have paid $75 to get on an earlier flight. (That obviously isn't overbooked, or the SDC wouldn't be allowed!)
Can't say I've been offered $1 though.
