Do you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card? If so, it's tough to beat their everyday purchase rate of $.025 per point, which you can then transfer to United at 1:1. Most of the time when United sends those promo offers they're at $.028/mile or higher.

They seem to be running specials for 2.1 cents/mile almost every quarter lately. I have purchase twice in the past half of year if my memory is correct.
I am about to buy miles from UA given the good promo they offer. I figured that with 2k I can get a r/t ticket to Europe in business class.
Any reason why I shouldn't do it?

Take care that you don't buy miles and end up not getting the reward ticket. Business care awards to Europe are not plentiful or easy to secure in all cases - so check availability and back up availability carefully before buying. Also, if you can get some form of instant purchase confirmation, then you might be able to do this without risk.

I get my miles-for-purchase promo in an email. I don't think it's targeted to any MP member in particular. The only thing "special" about my MP account is that I'm a Chase MP Explorer Cardholder.

Hmmm, not sure about this promotion....
The best case is IF 4,000 strangers decide to play this game the price would come down to 2.35 cents/mile (not really that bad).
But, you need to trust that UA and it's software can really keep track of the people who purchased these miles AND be honest about it AND that the 60% bonus miles would get correctly posted to your account.
Way too many chances that things don't exactly work out to my expectations thus the real price will be 2.9 cents per miles (not really that good of a deal).
