Positive Comment on SHARES: Ability to See "R" Upgrade Availability
Pls. forgive if this has been commented on before.
I know there has been a tsunami of criticism about the new res/booking system since the merger. Indeed, I have personally experience some issues myself, a couple of which required a call-in to the elite desk for help. Nonetheless, I think it is only fair to acknowledge when there have been improvements.
I am based in Europe and folks can probably imagine how it can be tough to find routes where I can use PGUs during summer/high season. On the old system, I had to call in and feel around with the reservations agent trying to find routes which had PGU upgrade seats available. With the switch to the new system & website, I can simply and easily run my search through the various TATL routes and see immediately which flights have "R" seats available and how many, and then book accordingly.
As far as I'm concerned, that has been a fantastic improvement - a real plus. ^
Does anyone else have thoughts on that?

umm, you could see it on united.com in expert mode just fine. (on an award search)
I do like the full display of the fare buckets, its a great improvement.

It was possible to do same on the old UA website, IIRC, if you logged in and set your profile to expert setting. Might be easier now but it isn't 'new' functionality.

In any case, I find it quite convenient to see the full picture of fare-class availability with one click on any fare search...

What is "SHARES"? How does one see all of the Reward Travel (R Class) availability as mentioned on this thread? I don't see it.

It isn't "new" functionality, but definitely improved in terms of making it easy to find the information instead of a hidden, kludgy workaround.

SHARES is the brother of H.A.L. Srsly, SHARES is the name of the CO reservation software / computer which is now used for ALL UA (UA used to use a different system that most people think was far easier to use. However, SHARES has a few good points, one of which is its much easier to check award availability. If you are looking for R, then it depends if your looking for an upgrade or award. For an upgrade you can pull up the schedule and click on the FARE CLASS link to the right of the flight and it will display all available fares including award/upgrade so right there you can look at R. IF R = 0 then no upgrade but if R = 1-9 then there are seats
