I was transiting on and was directed and given a voucher to another hotel within Schipol for a shower. I want to say it was the Mercure or something like that. I believe the Sheraton was for non-transiting pax.

Correct on both accounts in my experience: Mercure (in terminal) and Sheraton (outside the terminal). If you didn't ask for a voucher: Anyone can use the Mercure but you have to pay (think 10 euro).

What was you experience? Did you get a day room at Sheraton, shower room there, or something at Mercure? I'm not traveling to AMS until August, but would appreciate any updated information.

I am flying from ORD - AMS this Thursday night and also need to shower and suit up immediately upon arrival. Any feedback on the facilities at AMS would be greatly appreciated.

I used points to stay at the Hilton at the airport and was able to check in at about 9.30 am - and able to have a shower in my room. I was over-nighting, so had booked the room anyway - but it was nice to be able to get in early.

Flew Business class to AMS last week. Asked purser about shower at AMS and she said to ask ground crew upon arrival. Ground crew had no clue. Ended up in some non-descript lounge with no showers.

Were you talking with a contract agent of the actual UA employees on the ground? If the latter ask them to look up GG SHOWERS in the DRS and that will explain the process and even has the hotel/lounge partners listed IIRC.
