List of Possible Ways to Gain Entry into United Clubs?

Hi there.

After flying some F and C tickets, I realized how much I value the RCC; so I've decided to join up.

I was considering some ways of getting in.. I've already got Priority Plus Select with my AMEX Plat; so access to most other clubs doesn't matter.

1) Getting a Priority Plus card --- Included entry for ten or so visits, which would probably be enough...
2) Getting a US Air club membership; I've got a $75 coupon, and I can use my $200 of AMEX Plat airline fee credit towards it.
3) Just joining the United Club direct -- $500 or so.
4) Getting the CO Presidential Plus card --- $395/yr, United Club included -- and the club membership there claims to allow me to bring in up to two friends; something I haven't seen on options 1-3.

Any recommendations on which might be 'best'? The best value for the buck seems to be the US Air membership but I'm not sure what the policy is for bringing others in with me, and if there's some advantage of having a United Club (easy login to wifi points, etc) over the US Airways membership...

Thanks!

not sure what you mean by option 1. Priority Pass doesn't work at United Club.

The full PP works at UCs, just not the Select or whatever version that comes with certain credit cards. Also, with full PP you can bring guests and e charged for them; I'm not sure whether you can use some of your ten visits for a guest.

Well, since bringing others seems included in all the membership options (and #1 would, at least, use some of your quota of passes), UCC, USAir or CO PP all seem like viable options.

UCC seems like the most expensive way to go about it; $375 for USAir and $399 for CO PP. Any reason to pick one over the others?

I have the CO PP card, which for $395, gets the the lounge access (obvious HUGE perk), but also, Avis President's Club (2 car upgrade which is pretty nice), Morton's Steakhouse VIP (have never used this before), Hyatt's lowest level elite status (also never used as I am in Marriott's program), EQM's with my purchases, miles, some relatively cool sounding perks that to date I haven't used, but might one day. Since I already have status on UA, most of the other perks aren't needed (bags, boarding, etc.). I think the credit card has more advantages than just the club membership alone. And I've had no problems bringing a guest in.

You could also earn Star Gold status on a non-US Star Alliance Partner (Aegean is a popular option), although you'd be limited to 1 guest (or family? not sure about that, honestly)

If you don't fly enough for status but still value lounge membership, the Presidential Plus card is a better option, imo, than the US Club membership, as it affords some "experiential" benefits (as they put it) when flying UA/CO in addition to UC membership, like premier access, 2 free checked bags, Hyatt Platinum status, etc. Note that these benefits won't apply when flying other airlines, but you wouldn't get them at all with a US club membership.

Credit card and a crow bar usually works. Depends on the type of deadbolt

First off, Priority Pass won't get you into the club. Second, the PPlus card gives you a UC membership. So whether you purchase a UC membership or get the PPlus card, you can still bring 2 guests with you.

Thanks. The only downside of the card is that I'd have to give up my United Card for Chase to give me another card; and I wouldn't be able to use my AMEX to get $200 off of the lounge value. (Hence the plus on the US Airways -- ends up being 175 out of pocket...)

Is there any value to being a United Club member vs a US Airways Lounge member?

Priority Pass full (not Select) gets you into UA/CO, according to their website.

I believe the UC has more contract partnerships than US does (i.e. access to more clubs)

Interesting - I thought the whole relationship had been terminated

If you haven't already activated that benefit, you'll find out that Morton's isn't granting that to card holders any more.

Good benefit too. Lots of offers and $100 on your birthday to spend.
