Eyeballs junior was flying LAX-IAD on UA 950 W fare this morning on a confirmed upgrade using my SWU. He was downgraded to Y and offered $400 in certificates and I was given an extra SWU (GPU) in addition to the SWU that was redeposited. The original SWU was from Continental and expires in February.

Apparently several confirmed upgrades were also downgraded to Y on this flight, but that is for another thread.

My 11 y/o daughter and I were flying from SYR to PBI on 12/17 on a 5:50 a.m. commuter flight. The gate agent announced that due to weight and balance he needed two volunteers. I approached and he immediately booked us in first class in DL on both legs of our journey, on jet aircraft, and gave us each a $500 voucher - we actually arrived 15 minutes earlier than our original flight

Excellent outcome for you!

UA 396 HNL-SFO MXed

1/15 HNL-SFO was Cxled due to Mechicanal. After spending 30min on the phone with UA being told I had to leave HNL in the middle of the day, or the next morning and I settled on a bad seat on a CO 737 to LAX. At check in I found out that 396 had bee reinstated as another number (and equiptment downgrade)- I beged to be taken of the LAX flight.

Upon landing in SFO it was announced to go to United Appreciation..........I loged on and opted for $150 To be honest after 30min on the phone, not getting an auto rebooking and having to beg to get off the 737 to LAX and back onto my origial flights I did not feel too appreciated.

UA 465 MIA to ORD, scheduled for 8:16 am departure, finally left around 1230 pm. Fiasco after fiasco. First, the doors would not close. Sent in mechanic. Then announced that they had a catering glitch, no alcohol on board. Overbooked so my husband and I volunteered with 16 family members inside so we called back and forth as this went on. Turns out the plane's security was breached in the night and someone STOLE the alcohol. At that point, a family of 6 left, two of whom had been in first. I told the gate agent we wanted their first class seats and got them. No more volunteering as there were only 4 of us anyway. Then a Dade County sheriff marched onto the plane to check out the theft. More people poured out of the plane fearing that whoever got in could have brought a giftie with him/her in the form of a bomb. Gate agent later told everyone that they suspected the cleaning crew and that the wait for a plane out would be 2 1/2 days! Cruisers taking up all the space with all the airlines. Some nervous passengers then got back on. No sooner had we arrived on board than they announced that there was a problem with a flow device and we needed to evacuate so that they could replace a part. This does not bring peace to the heart. No effort was made to see if any device had been brought onto the plane by the thief. Many debating choices. When I volunteered, the gate agent said she could book us on Continental thru Houston (ultimate destination SFO) but as it turned out, there was actually only one seat. It disappeared in the chaos.

Most reboarded, including our family. Turned out to be an uneventful but late flight. Rebooked myself on a flight out of Chicago and we were 3 hrs late into SFO. When I got home, there were emails for my husband and me from UA offering $200 or 9000 mi. Took the $200 but think it might have been a touch more.

THIS IS THE KICKER: One family called me and was only offered $75 vouchers each! That amazed me. Does UA give out vouchers based on status?

UA DSM-DEN (12/24)

While sitting on the runway for about 45 minutes, the pilot turned on the PA to announce that passengers needed to remain seated, rambling on for 20 minutes, while several people used the facilities. He complained about his own need to use the facilities.

UA Customer Care gave a 10% certificate.

(Codeshare through Skywest IIRC).

The answer to your question is "yes". I have handled the cards when I've received several for my family (like when the whole row had IFE out) and each of us has gotten a different offer depending on status.

Started with UA CAK-ORD-LAX, booked via CO.com. Inbound airplane CAK-ORD was delayed so much that the new departure time and arrival time would land me in ORD after ORD-LAX would have already departed.

Called UA Premier line, offered to depart via CLE, because flights from CAK are few and far between. Rebooked on UA CLE-IAD-LAX.

CLE-IAD delayed due to MX long enough to blow the connection in IAD. No other flights out of CLE that would work, so called UA Premier again, was rebooked on CO CLE-LAX the following morning.

Got a hotel room out of it, don't know if there's anything else I can push for. Suggestions?

1K on a full-fare "Y" ticket — Flight 967 on 1/3/12 from IAD-LAX (B777) was cancelled due to "Aircraft Servicing." I was auto re-booked for the following day which wasn't going to work. Agent was able to get me the last seat on BWI-LAX. Was offered 10,000 RDM's for the inconvenience.

IAD-ATL today, returned to IAD shortly after takeoff due to an alarm about the main door seal. They got us to ATL about 2:15 later than originally scheduled. Appreciation offer was already waiting in my email: 10k RDM, $250, or 20% off

Was an odd flight in that I was on a H fare with a regional upgrade applied... and was #6 on the upgrade list. I've never failed to clear that one before, and then today it wasn't even close

Soft Product Failure

On evening flight from ORD to MCO a really oddball soft product failure in F. A distinctly unfriendly (though seemingly intelligent) FA, repeatedly mispronouncing "Orlando" over the PA, offered pax only still water or sparkling water on the ground at ORD (she had both types of water on the tray, but no juice). Once airborne the FAs didn't offer drinks until 30 mins. into the (smooth) flight. No nuts or snack mix. They cleared all drinks well before arrival MCO, and as pax deplaned the purser was already packing her bags and ignoring the pax!

Choice of 9,000 RDM, $200 North America e-cert or 10% off systemwide. Took the $200, though the RDM is getting to be a better bet.

The Customer Relations agent took a close personal interest in the specifics, more so than I have experienced on previous calls. She asked if I had recorded the FA's name (I hadn't), but said they would follow up.

Two hour delay on a late night flight. Offered 9k miles, 100 cert, or 10% off.

Had to call in to get points though. They dont send out the immediate emails apparently.

Jan 14, ORD-PIT (UX flight) diverted to CRW due to some malfunctioning + not so good weather at PIT. Initially they were planning to use another incoming a/c but the system fixed itself after reset so we arrived ~4 hours late on the original a/c. Offered $75 voucher or 20% off and of course took 20% off.

Don't know the RDM offer because I switched to NH number at the last minute as most of my miles there were expiring and I needed a couple of hundred miles to get any decent rewards.

plane substitution 777

Is a last minute plane substitution from a new config 777 to an old config 777 grounds for some sort of compensation? I booked the flight based on the seat map showing a new config only to have my seat disappear at the gate and the re-assigned to the old config.
