Wiki note about the forum’s several, active “Channel 9” threads.

Offering live ATC communications on UA flights on Channel 9 of the audio entertainment system (“Channel 9”) is exclusive to United and offered at the Captain’s discretion. This forum has four prime, active threads about Channel 9. This note will guide you to the right thread for your post, or to where you would look for those channel 9 posts you’re interested in.

1) This thread to discuss United’s progress in converting legacy Continental aircraft and now PDE equipped aircraft to offer Channel 9

2) For discussion on issues and availability on Channel 9 equipped aircraft, see Consolidated "Channel 9 Availability" Discussion Thread [Merged]

3) A thread, to discuss interesting things heard on Channel 9, such as interesting exchanges between pilots and controllers or asking about pilot-controller phraseology. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ad-merged.html

The Moderators may move misplaced posts to conform to these thread aims.

I apologize if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I couldn't find it

With some newly reconfigured Continental birds out there with E+ seats and the like, I'm wondering if anyone has been on a Continental flight with Channel 9 on.

I'm curious how CO pilots will be with this awesome UA benefit and I'm so excited it's staying on. I just wonder how long it will be before co pilots begin to use it on available aircraft.

I can't even get it on UA aircraft. I think I'm at around 10% for the year.

Hoping some of the very friendly CO pilots I met will be into it.

I haven't seen other reports of CO Channel 9, but I was pleasantly surprised to have Channel 9 on a refurbed PMCO 764. ^

Glad to see this report. I could have sworn I asked this question (has anyone had Ch 9 enabled on a 764 yet) last night on the Ch 9 availability thread but it's not there now. I'm definitely curious about the on/off rate on PMCO aircraft (apparently just the 764 for now, but 8/16 complete according to the google spreadsheet), would love to see more reports either way.

Do PMCO 764s have the annoying whiny tone that PMUA 763's have on channel 9?

I've not had it on a single flight this year.

Out of 12 UA mainline flights this year I had channel 9 once!
It was on United B757 IAH-SAN. The aircraft was United one, not CO.

Im not sure if someone already asked this, but can you get Ch 9 on a bird that has DirecTV? Im not into the whole thing of paying $6 for a 2 hour flight

I've heard that they will....but in my experience, Ch9 rarely is enabled on sUA aircraft so I imagine it's hardly a priority.

It has more to do with the various IFE systems installed on the PMCO aircraft than E+ seats. I believe the 764s that received the new AVOD system also received Ch. 9.

When will the PMCO darkbirds get any IFE at all? I think it's the same answer.

Since 03/03, I have noticed that even on those PMUA aircrafts the captains did not turn on CH9 as frequently as before. Also, after the merger I feel the percentage of female captains or first officers is dramatically reduced compared to the old UA time.
