How to Get a SWU Sponsored for a BMI Codeshare?

Got in on the PL deal to LHR and the return looks to be the new C, so I'd like to try it with a trade on CC.

However can't quite see how to do this. Since it's a BMI codeshare, upgrade is standby day of travel and that's not going to work with a sponsored upgrade.

Paper SWU won't work as they are only good on LH? Probably not enough time in any case.

In the thread on this deal, fastforward(?) I think was successful in getting a RCC agent to change the BMI codeshares to UA flight numbers as the original flight buckets were still available, but talking to a great 1K agent today I could not accomplish that.

Any way to do this?

IIRC that fare booked into lower fare (un-upgradeable) class (K, L, S, T etc),

The only way I can think of is to have the sponsor with you at the airport to authorize the upgrade. Probably not a good option.

Yeah, you are going to have to get it on a UA flight number as the BMI codeshares are only upgraded day-of-departure. Kinda tough to use a SWU like that if you aren't a 1K, ha. When checking-in online, I believe most people (including myself) have been able to change flights without paying a fee, through a glitch on .bomb. Doing so rebooks you into the same booking class (if available), but with a UA flight number. But the best way to do it ahead of time (through the 1K agent) didn't seem to work so.... ? Good luck! I had the new C on the way over and it was great!

No, booked into V (at least on .bomb that's how it shows).

mahasamatman: You're right, airport sponsorship likely not an option.

This is not a huge deal as flying IAD-LHR-IAD is pretty trivial time wise, but I've yet to try new C, so just looking for an angle with all the 1/09 SWUs expiring.

My only suggestion would be to try having a letter of authorization from the sponsor and having a TA that pities you. Quite unlikely, but who knows?
