..and landing gear issues in Beijing

Quote:
BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The UA888 flight of the United Airlines (UA) returned to Beijing Capital Airport after hovering about two hours in the sky, due to landing gear problem. No casualties were reported.

The flight took off at 12 a.m. and landed again on the airport at 14:10 p.m. The cabin crew found the problem about one hour after the take-off and soon informed the 281 passengers on board.

The UA arranged another aircraft to fly to San Francisco at 5:20 p.m. after loading all passengers and baggage.

What is a "seat set"? Did an actual row of seats come loose?

I guess so!

A seat set is a group of seats. Often two brackets with fastening points on each bracket hold a threesome of seats on the floor. There is probably some arrangement of tabs that fit into slots so that only a few screws are needed to hold the seats on the floor.

When did UA start flying helicopters PEK-SFO? Or did they squeeze 281 people into an Osprey or Harrier?

Well clearly it's their own fault..the passengers in that row refused to pay the seat anchoring fee..they got what they deserved.

Anybody have the tail number of this bird? I was on N309UA last week and that thing was in serious need of some parking.

one bolt ?

The news article
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...united04m.html

Says ONE bolt was loose causing the problem of the row sliding.
Shouldn't that be FOUR ?

Would actually take two to come loose and then the window or aisle could arc back into the passengers behind.

What ever happened to lockwashers ?

Do you really think the new and improved fees are the only way UA is dealing with high fuel prices? Removal of excess fasteners from aircraft will probably save them $5 million this year due to the lighter planes.

Well, the effects of one bolt being loose (vibration, etc.) can cause the other bolts to come loose or otherwise fail.
