The only thing that seems to be is that 1K (and, I am guessing SPG Platinum) actually gets you Sixt Platinum status.
For years now, I have been getting the benefits simply by saying that I am 1K. And--it's been on their web site for many years.

Tried the link for the platinum card and it seems to be off the website. Is the platinum card being discontinued?

Wirelessly posted (xx: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)
I filled out the site info in Feb and got the card in March. Unfortunately when I tried booking a car in March the rates were crazy high. Oh well.

Is there a place on FT that talks about getting elite status one place for free (or having status somewhere else)?

So I rented the car as a nobody - scored the lower rate.
Check it both ways.

I got my Platinum card last month by following the "Sixt Cards" link on the website. The link only showed the Gold card, but I applied using the United 1K option using my MP #. I actually received the Platinum card. True, as the above poster stated, if you begin your search by logging in first, you get the rack rate minus the discount which is often considerably more than the best rate. What you should do is not log in, find the best rate (usually an internet rate) and start the booking process, then, enter your Sixt #. You will then get the best rate along with the perks that go with the Platinum status. I recently searched all the rental car sites for a France rental using all the discount codes I could find. Sixt had the best price of any. I rented a compact car for $US 345 AI for 8 days. When I checked my waiting car out, it was a midsize Lancia Delta Saloon car with navigation system and all the bells and whistles with only 11,000 km. YMMV
