My apologies if this has been answered, but my search did not show anything recent.
I have not flown on UA in a while. Is Channel 9 still available? All I see is XM radio listed, but nothing about Channel 9 (ATC) was mentioned. That is one of the reasons I like to fly UA.
I had had awful luck with it prior to this past weekend; even on flights where the captain would announce it being available, something would get flummoxed, and it would be dead or music.
However, every single flight this past weekend had it working throughout the flight. Definitely still there, and still enjoyed!
On one of my last flights (I'm pretty sure that it was UA #942 from LAX to ORD -- I wish I could remember the plane type; it might have been a 757), there was no Channel 9. And, no, I don't mean that the captain simply opted to not have it on. There was some XM radio station on channel 9! In fact, when I looked through "Hemispheres" it showed two different entertainment menus; and, one of them (the one being offered us, apparently) had no Channel 9. Anyone else seen this or am I not remembering things correctly?
My pet peeve is on 757's when they show the safety video and then don't shut the video unit off when the safety video is done, leaving the entertainment system in a No-Op state.
To me, Ch. 9 is most interesting during Taxi, Take-off and Landing, and I can't believe how many times I've settled into my seat, plugged into Ch. 9, could hear the pilots and controllers, sad to myself, "Good, it's on", only to lose the channel because the FA's didn't shut off the safety video when it was done.
Latest incident was LAX-ORD last Sat. Then on my ORD-FRA flight, Channel 9 wasn't on due to "pilot's discretion". Not a good day for a Ch. 9 fan.

Yeah, this happens to me too on the 75 every once in a while. But I'm always able to get a hold of a FA pretty fast to get it back on again.. For those tho don't know, when the two orange lights are shoving on the forward screen when stowed, and the screens are black, they have forgot to turn off the safety video..
