I am happy to contribute the first report in this thread!

January 3, 2010
IAD-NRT UA# 897

Menu

Pre-departure Drinks

I selected the Japanese meal because I am a little tired of eating the standard C steak and chicken meals. The Japanese meal offers more varieties and appears to be more healthy.

Japanese Meal

I am a cheese lover. Grapes, red wine and cheese can be a meal for me at home.

Mid-flight Snacks

Sorry I used my iPhone to take the snack tray-cart. The quality of the photos is not good and the camera shake makes the photo a bit blurry.

The Turkey Sandwich was not bad...

Pre-arrival Meal

I chose the fruit and yogurt plate because I already had a hot sandwich during the flight. Also, I was looking forwad to the Japanese noodle bar at the ANA lounge after I land at NRT.

My son took the hot chicken sandwich. The bread was a little tough to chew.

Overall, the meals were fairly good. The Japanese meal selection came with a lot of food. The salmon main dish was a little on the salty side, but was cooked just right. I noticed United has improved the way it heats up rice on the plane. Rice used to be hard from overheating in the oven. The Japanese rice was soft and chewy on this flight. I will continue to select the Japanese meal until I get tired of it.

NRT-PEK UA#897

It was nice to see Trader Vic's selections on all intra-Asia flights.

Menu

Beverage

Salad is a little sad. The best part is the garlic bread served on this flight

Salad and Bread

My son chose the short ribs, but only finished the mash potato. The ribs were juicy and tender; however, it was not sweet & sour as advertised. It was smokey BBQ flavored. My son does not like BBQ flavor.

Trader Vic's Sweet & Sour Short Ribs

I had the Green Curry Chicken. The sauce was white and thick. I guess I am used to the light greenish sauce I've had in Thailand, and found the Trader Vic's sauce too rich for me. The curry sauce does taste very good; it had a nice spice kick to it. I did enjoy the meal.

Trader Vic's Green Curry Chicken

Eli's tart/cheese cake selections are a little tired for me. The desert choice lacks imagination. it was rasberry one month, strawberry the next, and I had pineapple flavored cheese cakes in Nov and Dec last year, and we have the exciting cherry in January.

Eli's Cherry Tart

Overall, both Trader Vic's entrees were nice, but it would be nice to have sweet and sour source as advertised, and a little easy on the starch on the curry sauce.

I don't know if I'd call it a "full" meal.

I flew this in F last month, and there were no printed menus. Options were a chicken sandwich and a salad.

I fly NRT-ICN regularly. In F there are 2 cold snack options- usually sandwich and soba noodles/salad, in C there is only 1 choice- usually the sandwich. No printed menus in F and C. In Y you get a small snack box. HKG-SGN should be about the same.

I flew this last month (after Christmas)...booked in Y on a RTW trip, but used a SWU (from IAD) to get into C, and after taking a shower at the HKG RCC, found that my wife and I were op-up'ed to F!

In F there was a meal, with no printed menus, taken before takeoff, and I forget the other option, but I chose the Hainan style Chicken/Rice, which actually was pretty good. The wines were definitely nice as well!

If I remember right, it looked like C had meals as well! If nothing else, go up to the RCC (or TG lounge) and pig out on the suprisingly decent food options, including the nice sized and I swear - better tasting - ice cream!

I'd skip HKG RCC altogether. TG Lounge is so much better.
I have not visited HKG RCC since I discovered TG Lounge two years ago.

West Coast-NRT menu is exactly same as my IAD-NRT menu (except for the second meal hot entree), while my NRT-PEK selections are also identical to your NRT-SIN's.

That Cherry tart is the fixture of the month on any flights out of NRT.

Thanks for posting the NRT-LAX/SEA/SFO C Menu to save me the trouble reading it this weekend. It looks like the Japanese meal is still the best choice.
