So when I was aboard UA 855 MIA-EZE in the wee hours of Feb 7 -- you know the flight with the cockpit breach by the crazy Uruguayan banker -- I had no idea that I had chosen such an unlucky flight number.
Turns out another UA 855 fell victim to a hijacking attempt, and it succeeded!

Now I'm not superstitious - but this is downright bad luck! I move that they retire UA 855 just like I'm sure has happened with other now infamous flight numbers, UA75, UA232, etc. Anyone have a list of numbers they don't use/won't reuse?
I stumbled on this while checking Google to see what became of our Uruguayan banker friend. Turns out he pled guilty and faces sentencing in Miami Sept 16.
I never did post anything in FT about my experience on board the flight, but my comments about it were well documented in the media that day.
Of course, lucky or unlucky -- I've flown the same UA 855 at least two times since Feb 7 as its been their only service to EZE
