Upgrade Award Ticket?
This has got to a "dumb" question....however, as a 1K I have always used miles for upgrades, not buying tickets...so, question is:
Are "economy" award tickets upgradeable with instruments such as CR-1's, SWU's or e500's?
Thanks in advance...I learn something every day on FT!

Some on this board have been offered buy-up options at the gate even when on award tickets. But no use of typical instruments to upgrade award tickets unless you are GS.

Myself in Y, GF on Saver Ticket Upgrade Options?
I'm flying round trip in Y class (IAD-SEA), my GF is following several days later on a Saver ticket and we're both returning together: are there any possible upgrade to BIZ combinations (i.e. using my thousands of 500 mile, regional or SWU) that could put us both up front?

Unless you are a GS there's no way to upgrade an award ticket, sorry. You can hope for a buy-up to C at check-in, although it's unlikely when one is on an award.

Thanks, that's what I expected. Although, I assume if I can get an upgrade (which usual happens, i'm 1K) we can switch so she sits in biz?

i tried this exact same thing (except for the routing), with mrs 1780. I was shot down at every turn (I tried online sponsor, mrchicken, live CSR at checkin, and 2 different GA's). FWIW, I actually already cleared into F with 500's, but downgraded.... as mrs 1780 would have divorced me had I left her alone in Y)
And before I am flamed, I offered her the F seat.

Upgrading an already ticketed award itinerary
Is there any way to upgrade a domestic itinerary that's already been ticketed using MP miles? I'm pretty sure CR-1s and the like won't work, but I don't know the intricate details of MP like you all do.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you're UGS, you should be able to. Otherwise, no. You could always see if there are available tickets in the next class and use more miles total

It's possible that you could get a buy-up opportunity at check-in, even on an award ticket.
