A United Mileage Explorer credit card ?

A United Mileage Explorer credit card ?
Both husband and I have the card but do we both have to have it when we check in for our flight in January?
I will try to get a bonus for keeping the cards once the annual fee rolls in but wondered if we both need the card.
I used my cc for both our taxes on the award flights.
Confirmation says 1st bag free since I paid the taxes with the card.
