We flew this in October. Day-of-flight they did an equipment substitution from old config to new config. Caused an issue with an upgrade to F.

I'm flying in March LAX-LHR. Showing new config 777; upgrade to F has already cleared ; even if they sub-in the old config, I should still be OK, as that has more F seats anyway. I can sleep well in either old or new F seats.

i can only see business for japan flights but it shows 2,3,2 for 7rows..(8-15)

for lhr flight im not confirmed yet so can see economy.
its row 19 and 46 3 seats only then row 20 2 -3-2 and after that to 45 3-3-3.
row 31 is 2-0-2 and 33 is 3-0-3

main thing im worried about is avoiding the dreaded empower ports...

thanks

VERY Narrow Seats...NOT COMFORTABLE

I don't know if there is a more appropriate thread on the comfort (DIScomfort) factor of the new 777 seats, but I'm posting here...

I've flown a lot on the new Biz seats on the 747 and also the 767 (but not as much as the 747) and the other day was my first time on the 777 in the new seats in Biz (SFO-LHR). I have to say...i'm not at all tall or big or broad shouldered or overweight (5'9" 165) and I was extremely uncomfortable. The seats for the 777 drop 3 inches in width from the 747s and 767s and are only 20.5" wide!!! And trust me...you really feel it! Packing 8 seats across is TIGHT. The economy seats are 18" so you only get 2.5 extra inches in business class!?! First class drops a whopping TEN INCHES in width over the 747s and 767s to be only 21" inches wide (31" on the 747/767 in First).

UNITED...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have never complained about the seat width because it never even crossed my mind until this flight, so I can't possibly be the only one complaining about your seat width!! I was literally rubbing shoulders with my neighbors the entire flight (got stuck in a dreaded middle seat) and when reclined I felt like i was sharing a bed with the other middle guy...there is maybe 2 inches between the bed/seats! His legs were rubbing against mine...

I seriously think United needs to STOP reconfiguring the 777s and rethink this. Continental's reconfigured 777s look like a much better layout with only 6 seats across. If this is really the future, I will need to figure out a way to avoid these configs completely and only fly the CO aircraft or avoid 777s altogether (which is hard since there are so many). I'm really really disappointed...and just shocked that United thought this was a good plan.

If United wants to SELL Business Class seats on the 777s they can forget it. Once everyone wises up to the new config, forget it. This is not even a competitive product with the bus-like interior of 8 seats across (economy is only 1 more seat across at 9) and we're all looking at each other because of the forward/rearward thing (which is fine on the 747 and 767 - never bothered me before, but this flight with the narrowness...you just really notice how crowded it is). If United wants to keep packing premium cabins with upgraders and mileage tickets then I guess this is just fine...but they can count me out. Both of my neighbors were complaining about it the whole time and were saying they would never pay for Business Class on United again. There's a lot of competition for your Business Class money and these seats are NOT competitive. BA has great new seats in Biz - very private and the other good airlines are giving MORE privacy in Biz PLUS lie flat...not making this kind of trade off. Try it for yourselves...maybe the window/aisle is better, but trust me there is no way I would ever pay the price to sit in any of the middle seats and there are 10 of them for sale on every new config 777. And there is ZERO storage space anywhere especially in the middles (again, I always sit upper deck where there is a ton of storage with the side lockers...this was a rude awakening). The FAs even seemed embarrassed...Ugh!

Anyone else notice this and feel the same way or am I out on a limb here?

I have no experience with the new seats on the 777 so I can't comment but I hope for all our sakes that its not this bad and maybe you were just having a bad day ... dare to dream.

I flew LHR-IAD on the 777XQ back in early December, and didn't really notice the extra narrowness of the seat compared to the 744's.

However, I chatted with one of the FA's when she mentioned that she was still trying to get used to doing service on the new configuration. She explained that the 777's seat edges are not all lined up straight along the aisle like the 744 and 763. That was why the service cart sometimes bumps into the side of the biz seat.

To be honest, I didn't really notice the difference, but maybe worldtrav or planemechanic can chime in on this.

It's be interesting to see which 777 version (UA's or CO's) prevails after the operational merger is completed. Can UA switch to the CO version now if management decides that is the way to go? Are they locked into the current version contractually with their suppliers?

Interesting that width in LH J in the A333 is 20 inches and in the new A380 is 19.8 inches (see seatguru).

Regarding the seat width and why it's so bad in the middle seats is that between the other seats you have that wide armrest and then it gets wider as it moves away from the seat with the section where the tray tables are housed. In the MIDDLE that doesn't exist! You just have the narrow style armrest that you can move up and down (each seat has one - each is about 1 inch wide) and there is nothing else between you, so where the tray table section normally gives you a sense of your own space between the middle and aisle seat in the center section or the window and aisle seat, there is no such protection between the 2 middle seats...so when you cross your legs your foot is protruding into your middle neighbor's space. It really feels like economy.

So, I wasn't really having a bad day as one other posted suggested, but I admit it would definitely not be AS BAD if you're in a window seat because you have a little extra space between the seat and the window that is all yours or the aisle because you have that sense of free space next to you there. BUT for the middle seats (again, 10 on every 777 in C) you feel VERY cramped. It may be fine if you're traveling with the person next to you, but it's not fine for strangers, which I would say most C-pax travel alone for work.

I will also say that I noticed some middle sections have the foot rest separated because of the reversing forward/backward thing. Meaning in some of the middle sections the footrest is angled toward the aisle and away from the other middle seat. In my case, in row 6, they are angled towards the middle, meaning the feet of our beds are only inches apart...so that also added to the misery of the middle seats in row 6.

Seat guru does not yet address this...but you all should take note.

I would say if you are stuck on the 777 in new C, fight hard for a window or aisle on the outside seats. Then go for an aisle in the center and in that case take an aisle with the foot rest angled toward the middle so you don't get knocked by carts.

THEN if you get stuck with a middle go with the rows where the footrest is angled toward the aisle so you aren't rubbing legs with your middle seat mate.

The worst C seats on this plane are the middles with footrests angled toward the middle.

Hope this helps.

But I really think we should see if we can get UA to go with the new CO config for 777s and dump this product. It is a substandard design...seriously.

Another posted noted the FAs complained about this design. I heard the same. On my plane, the FAs mentioned that there is NO storage on this plane. Also, 2 weeks ago on a 747 upper deck from FRA-SFO, i was chatting with the FA who said she refused to work the new 777 cabin because it's so bad...too crowded, with no storage. At the time I didn't pay much attention...NOW I get it.

First class drops a whopping TEN INCHES in width over the 747s and 767s to be only 21" inches wide (31" on the 747/767 in First).
UA 777 F

UA 747 F

I don't see a 10 inch difference.
