Mileage purchase bonus emails

+ 1 and I have both gotten these emails, but there is a difference. I was offered a 30% bonus, but + 1 was only offered 20%. I always wonder how they make these decisions...

(Of course, neither one of us will take advantage of this deal, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.)

I only got an 10% bonus offer and unlike offers in the past, no waiver of the transaction fee.

Perhaps UA's marketing department figured out AB testing and is seeing if giving away extra miles (30% vs. 10%) results in a proportional (or acceptably higher) uptake.

We were both offered 20% but strangely enough it's suggesting she buy 6,000 miles and I buy 7,200 miles. This won't make either of us cross a threshold that I see. The only difference I see is that I have more miles in my account than she has in hers.

7,200 is 6,000 + 20%. Our "suggestions" were both 6,000 + appropriate bonus.

got a 20% discount on the purchase,
and some how their math of a 6k mile purchase equals "Premium Cabin"
Trying to figure out that one.

Just got the 30%.......

Need just a few more miles to get the award travel you want? Purchase miles and you'll be on your way in no time. Plus you'll get 30% bonus award miles added onto your total purchase through December 15, 2010.

(In order to receive this special offer, you must click on the green "Purchase miles" button in this email.)

Clicked the green button and got this

Redeem for awards sooner with a 30% mileage bonus
(Price per mile is $0.03 plus 7.5% federal excise tax and a $35 transaction fee)

I got "Premium Cabin", and FS-Mom got "Standard Award", even though she has more than enough for a standard award..

Check this out...

So I check the URL as the link contain my MP #

The first letters after the "https://secure.unitedmileageplus.com/BuyMiles/OrderPersonalMiles.jsp?CC=" corresponds with your MP# ...so A=0 and B=1 so you can edit it and if you like feel generous, add pts to other MP members

I'm sure the ending letter and numbers have to do with whether it shows up 10%, 20%, 30% or whatever else they might have offer. So feel free to play around and report back

20% here, with an example that my current half a million RDM's could be half a million and six thousand if I was to buy 6,000 more miles!
