United Airlines still allows stopovers on international awards.

It's a done deal.

United won't allow stopovers anymore on interantional award tickets.

Read the article... <snip> How does all this affect you? In just one way: it will cost you many more miles. Last New Year’s Eve, I took my parents to Australia. I booked them tickets with my United miles, originating in Europe, with a stopover in the United States for Christmas. The cost was 170,000 miles per person. Under the new policy, I need 205,000 miles per person for the same trip. I call this a big difference. <snip>

I knew this was coming after one-way awards were available.

Ouch...not surprising though w/ OW awards. At least the OW awards give a greater flexibility in mixing and matching with oneworld.

There's no link to official UA policy in Nick's article.

Have we seen an announcement yet?

All we know is that, as expected, you cannot book stopovers on o/w awards.

.bomb still says stopovers are allowed on r/t awards:

It's not over until the fat lady sings!

It is expected though, since UA is matching AA in the one way department. It wouldn't surprise me if UA came out with the "star alliance" award (just like the one world award) where you can have as many stopovers as you'd like, but the award levels are based on how many miles you travel.

This cannot be true - I just booked three roundtrip award tickets with stopovers and specifically asked if anything changed. The agent told me that the only things that have changed recently are the new one-way Star Alliance awards, and being able to change a Star Alliance award ticket (both one-way and roundtrip) after you've already started your trip.

Define "just." Today? Yesterday? 10/31?

Wouldn't surprise me. United seems to be going to great lengths to become The World's Leading Mediocre and Overpriced Airline".

All the DYKWIAs in UA forum will get over it, just as we had to in the AA forum. It's a move on UA's part to remain competitive with AA

This is what I saw:

You must fly the most direct route from origin to destination. That means no stopovers. You can, however, make connections. Tip: If you want to visit multiple cities, you can use multiple One-Way Awards to create your itinerary.

http://www.united.com/page/article/1...One+Way+Awards

But then on the regular award page, it still says stopovers are allowed on RTs.

I'm on the phone with an SD at MP right now -- they are not sure if there has been a change and reading through pages on their computers to find out.

I'll revise my column, of course, if needed -- hope I was wrong.

I take that page to mean there are no en route stopovers on one way awards. Nothing has changed on round trip awards.
