United Airlines still allows stopovers on international awards.
It's a done deal.
United won't allow stopovers anymore on interantional award tickets.
Read the article... <snip> How does all this affect you? In just one way: it will cost you many more miles. Last New Year’s Eve, I took my parents to Australia. I booked them tickets with my United miles, originating in Europe, with a stopover in the United States for Christmas. The cost was 170,000 miles per person. Under the new policy, I need 205,000 miles per person for the same trip. I call this a big difference. <snip>
It is expected though, since UA is matching AA in the one way department. It wouldn't surprise me if UA came out with the "star alliance" award (just like the one world award) where you can have as many stopovers as you'd like, but the award levels are based on how many miles you travel.
This cannot be true - I just booked three roundtrip award tickets with stopovers and specifically asked if anything changed. The agent told me that the only things that have changed recently are the new one-way Star Alliance awards, and being able to change a Star Alliance award ticket (both one-way and roundtrip) after you've already started your trip.

You must fly the most direct route from origin to destination. That means no stopovers. You can, however, make connections. Tip: If you want to visit multiple cities, you can use multiple One-Way Awards to create your itinerary.
