FAs on my flight open and dump every unused can of soda
Was sitting in 21B on UA 991 from IAD to ORD this morning. After the beverage service, I watched two flight attendants spend about 40 minutes opening every can of unopened soda and juice, about four trays worth, and pour the contents down the drain in the mid-cabin galley in Economy. They also empied about a dozen full unopened bottles of water. Overheard one of the FAs speaking with another crewmember about union action.
Planning on providing this info to UA. Anyone else seeing this kind of action?

There is no question that this is a crime. While I am no attorney, I do work in law enforcement. Criminal Mischief comes to my mind, here. No question that these childish FA's deserve to be prosecuted, and the OP should write a letter to UA without hesitation.

Wow thats very bad behaviour indeed. Although it could well be considered appropriation of property, whilst it probably wouldnt be in the public interest to prosecute this its probably an internal disciplinary issue.
Whilst I have every sympathy, and would probably support FA's etc who strike/ take other action according to Union principles I very much doubt such behaviour would be within it! A sad state of affair nonetheless.

Who would have jurisdiction? I'm curious, would it be the FBI, and is there a federal crime?

As its on a US aircraft in US Airspace federal jusrisdiction probably kicks in. I doubt however this sort of 'minor' action would be a federal offence.

I was on a HNL/SFO flight Monday and one of the FA's was asked about the merger by a FC passenger she seemed to know and she stated that the FA's are from two different unions and the negotiations were not going well with their bargaining units.

Seriously?!?! Needs to be prosecuted? Yes it was totally wrong and should be dealt with internally. However prosecuted for criminal mischief?! Come on now that would be a complete waste of tax dollars. There is a lot better and more important things law enforcement needs to be focusing on.

Perhaps it is a bit paranoid, but if it were me, I would not list my exact seat and flight on this board, especially for something like this. Too easy for those who may be "interested" to find you.
That said, you should have simply asked them what they were doing. You could also have added you work at a homeless shelter for families, and how kids there really could have used those drinks. Sad face time.

18 United States Code Sec. 1363:
"Whoever, within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction
of the United States, willfully and maliciously destroys or injures
any structure, conveyance, or other real or personal property, or
attempts or conspires to do such an act, shall be fined under this
title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both, and if the
building be a dwelling, or the life of any person be placed in
jeopardy, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more
than twenty years, or both."
Flights on U.S. aircraft are within the "special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States." The described beverages are personal property. The actions are clearly willful and malicious. Whether any U.S. Attorney would prosecute is an entirely different matter.

Isn't this starting to sound a little Les Miserables? Five years for dumping some soda? I guess if it's any consolation, in Texas they'd probably hang em.
Well in a world where millions lack enough food and clean drinking water - it is certainly a sin if not crime. If true, I think some volunteer time in a non-profit serving the hungry is in order.
