Looks like these gadgets prevent the seatback in front from reclining. Nice for the device's owner, not so nice for the pax in front. Which pretty much explains why UA (and most other carriers, I presume) does not want them to be used.

Wow -- I wouldn't have believed that if I didn't see them for sale. I'd sure be irritated (and I'm not easily irritated) if somebody slapped those on the back of my seat to prevent me from reclining!

Wonder how many of those they'll sell before all the carriers put the inevitable end to them?

This is the kind of gadget that could get me arrested at the arrival of the airplane !! I wouldn't take that very well.

Using this device is the epitome of airborne rudeness. Glad to see them banned.

No kidding. Anyway, werent' these invented as a "knee jerk" reaction to DL,CO,NW,HP etc.'s horrible NRTC seating - why any frequent UA flyer would even want one in view of E+ is a mystery to me.

Check out this 5 page thread from TravelBuzz:

Not surprisingly, there are some very strong opinions in the thread.

Glad to hear this. Saves some unfortunate doctor from having to perform a knee defenderectomy after I jam it up the owner's nose....

Yet another reason to avoid UA. Though I will continue to use mine absent FA announcement or other indicia of official policy.
