United Global Services Status (Qualification, Benefits, etc.) [Merged]

I haven't seen any discussion of this but maybe I missed it. Got a letter today from UA thanking me for my business (easily made 1K the past 3 years) and saying that from March 1 2003- Feb 2004 I will get a special conmbined 1K and "United Global Services" Card that gives me 24 hour dedicated support, highest prority processing of upgrades and standbys, etc. This sounds like a kind of 1K +. Membership "by invitation only" on an annual basis. Maybe it has existed before but I haven't been elite enough to be a member? Or is it new? Does anyone else know any details about what this might really mean? (We can all be cynical but let's try to leave those responses in a new year spirit of optimism...)
(First time post, but I've read the board for a while - great source of info!)

Not familiar with "United Global Services" but am familiar with "Special Member Services." Do you have particularly high revenue to UA? auh2o?

Half a dozen F or C full fares LAX-LHR or LAX-DXB, so that would probably qualify me as a high revenue.

This does not mention "special Member Services" though it could be the same. It is specifically labelled "United Global Services", all captilized with a "SM" mark. The "United Global Services Support Desk" is mentioned too.

Well, since someone has got the letter...

United Global Services is indeed the new "deal" "level" or whatever you want to call it.

It's being offered by invitation only to those who contribute exceptional revenue, and/or influence major corporate travel contracts at their company.

Each invitee will have their account re-evaluated on an annual basis.

It's a fancy Black card, that will also reflect your Mileage Plus status on it.

Invitations/notifications, as you now know...go out this month.

BTW, this is not being managed by Mileage Plus. It is being managed by WHQ in Chicago.

Premex, would you care to spill a few more beans? I have a few questions:

- Is this the equivalent of the LH Black Card (that was announced but has apparently not been released yet)?

- What are the perks of the Global Services Card vis-à-vis the other levels? (Maybe a bigger upgrade window?)

- Can you be (in theory, at least) a 1P and a GSC-holder? and, if so,

- How would you rank vs. 1Ks, 1Ps, etc.

What else can you tell us?

I really can't add anything else to that until the details have been made public (or I'm released from my promise).

Right now, folks are just being notified that they will be included, and will get details of all it encompasses later.

Sorry.

Thanks! I hope UA will make it worth all that flying! I really hope UA makes it. (I have ended up flying LH a lot recently and crediting the miles to M&M - hard to beat triple miles for paid first and the hugely superior on-board service versus UA.)

No need to be sorry! I would not want you to betray any confidences; I just figured that if they have started sending out letters that it might be "public". I guess it is safe to say, though, that this is *not* the extra present we were told to expect for making 1K the old-fashioned way: 1 mile at a time.

Oh, and I keep forgetting: I am the underperforming customer segment. Who are we kidding anyway...?

The international conceirge is being phased out as part of this deal. Effective in March (I think, if not sooner) there will be no more international conceirge unless a specific request is made and the passenger is on a full fare 1st class ticket and a member of the "UA Global Services." This was told to me today in LHR.

Any rough idea as to what High Revenue travelers means specifically?

Meaning:

$50,000 and more per person? $100,000 a year and more?

The travel manager part is pretty obvious, but not the High Revenue part.

Does this mean 1Ks are now mid-tier?

I'm willing to bet that UA is not measuring overall revenue but rather the revenue generated solely from full-fare tickets.
