Non-reconfigured (Old) 747 N194UA in service (until 6 Jan 2011)

Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Starting 6/20, the 6:00 a.m. SFO-ORD 747 appears to be showing a new F seatmap. Instead of four rows with a total of 10 seats (2 rows of 2 + 2 rows of 4), it's now showing five rows with a total of 12 seats (3 rows of 2 + 2 rows of 4).

Is this a new variant of the config? Seatguru has no mention of this layout.

Also, the numbering scheme is different. Instead of the windows being rows A and K, the windows are now A and J.

Has anyone else noticed this?

As there has been interest in this of late and questions asked about it, this will become our discussion thread on this topic. Thanks for your understanding.

You getting the old config N194UA, which was pulled out of the desert and will be doing:
  • Domestic runs
  • Military Charters
  • Operational Subsitiutions

That explains why it might not be showing on F searches; imagine the irritation.

Same here..

In addition, strange to see the old seatmap for C...

Yes, I am on that flight on the 22nd. I upgraded with miles when it showed new C. When the old C popped up, I complained and asked to be put back into Y and get my miles back, taking my chances with UDU. Since Y was sold out, they could not do this. As compensation, they gave me 7,000 miles and waived the $50 upgrade charge.

You shouldn't have had to pay the $50 upgrade fee, as all elites are eligible for domestic mileage upgrades without the copay fee..

Quote:
* Mileage Plus elite members will not be a charged a co-pay.
* All routes within the continental U.S., Alaska and Canada qualify for the exemption—even transcontinental p.sŪ flights.
* Elite member co-pay exemption will begin for all flights departing on or after May 20, 2010, regardless of when they were purchased.
* General members and non-members are also exempt when traveling on the same reservation as an elite member.
* However, general members and non-members who are sponsored by an elite member who is not traveling on the same reservation will still pay the co-pay.

Thanks. Good to know. With the 7000 mile compensation gift, I am effectively using 8000 miles to upgrade to the old C. Though I would still rather have the new C, this is not such a bad deal (especially since I snagged row 15 upstairs).

But some people prefer the surety of confirmed upgrades to the uncertainty of UDU. Since the OP appears to be in the former group, the $50 was appropriate for the mileage upgrade. Information out of date.

It interesting that there was any compensation - I've never heard of UA giving compensation like this for an equipment substitution.

That is for mileage upgrades, not UDU - refer to the link...

Was this the one that was parked in Goodyear, AZ?

I drove by it everyday last summer if so...thought it was odd that they had a new livery 744 parked, seemed like they would have every last one utilized!

( I was never close enough to see a tail # )

*sigh* yet another reminder that my ORD-SFO 747 seat went from 15A in the upper deck rear facing lay flat to 16A old config.

Yeah, and this 1K was really looking forward to sitting in Seat 1K in the new config. I will just have to settle for 1J now.
