Chase Milage Plus Visa - 50,000 Miles Sign Up Promotion

Not sure if this is old news or not. Called 1K desk today to change a flight, and the agent told me that for April, they have a 50k sign up bonus for the Chase card if you do it over the phone.

Actually, I noticed something about this promo searching around on the United site earlier today:

Looks like it is only for new cardholders, unfortunately.

Sorry, not an April Fools post.
I asked to do it online, and the 1K desk said it had to be done over the phone. They transferred me directly to Chase, who signed me up.

Hey, sorry I don't. Like I said, i just called to change an award ticket and the United rep offered it to me and did the rest. no mention of any other details other than it was for this month and it was 50k miles

I just called the Chase application center number 1-866-556-7201 and the dude was clueless, so I didnt get very far with him. Anybody else with better luck?

I called on 4/2 to reset my United password, and the call center mentioned the same offer to me -- 50k miles as a bonus for opening a new card. He transferred me to Chase and they took my application over the phone. Chase said it was a promotion through the end of April. No fee the first year, $60 annual fee after that.

I was offered the same deal on 4/3 when I called the 1K desk. The agent did a double-take and first said 30,000 and then "Oh, wait, it's 50,000 right now!"

Hmm. Do those "miles" count as chase points? If so, that's $500, not a bad signing bonus! But I doubt it works that way.

Are you a first time card holder? Generally, these promotions only apply to those who don't have a UA Visa card.
