In the past 2 years, I have been treated as a second rate citizen to Global Services participants and I am sick of it. I am 1K and have over 1million miles with United but it seems to make little difference to the United staff.
Those of us who are 1Ks and over 1 million miles stayed with United during the hard times and even traveled with United when it appeared it would go under without the government funding. But, it appears our loyalty to United isn't reciprocated.

Reason: OK - I got it wrong - But, how does one become Global Services? Does anyone know?
Why would you expect to be accomodated at the Global Services / United First check-in line if you were neither Global Services or confirmed in United First?
The upgrade waitlist has a well-documented pecking order.
You and your wife must have been on a different PNR for the South America - LAX trip.
March 2003 - your first post was a long time in the making!
I know little about the super secret and elite "Global Services" but it seems this class is awarded to everyone in a company. And, anyone traveling from that company gets Global Services advantages OVER 1Ks regardless if they travel 1 time per year or 100 times per year.
No, you're badly off in how it's awarded.
The rest of your post, I found amusing, because 1Ps, 2Ps, and everyone else could make the same complaints about 1Ks.

This was clearly demonstrated when I tried to check in at GRU airport in the Global Services/ First Class desk and the United Attendant wouldn't check me in and told me this was only for GS and First Class. There was NO-ONE in the Global Services line and the Business Check-in line was full. I told her I was a 1K and had over 1 million miles but she insisted that I go to the Business Check-in line.
its pretty clearly labeled. how would you like it if you were in the 1k line and a bunch of premiers decided that their line was too long and wanted to get into your line and did so before you got there. it wouldn't be fair to you.

once again, what would you like UA to do? even if it wasn't a different status, they would likely be in higher booking codes and get the u/g anyway

i guess it makes sense. i didn't know they did this. i'd have to agree with you here that 1Ks should be able to take along a companion in the same PNR at the 1K level

Definitely not awarded to everyone in a company

UA makes more money from GS flyers so that is who they treat better. it makes sense business wise. does it suck sometimes being only a 1k and having someone above me, yeah sure, but does it make sense from a business standpoint-absolutely

Yes, I agree but it seems when there is no-one in line and the business class line is full they would make a concession. That is good customer service.

I would like to be able to "earn" my way to Global Services. But, when you ask United how does someone or a company receive this status you are told "It is invitation only."

I am not so sure about that. We spend close to $1,000,000.00 per year in flights and we have 3 1Ks in my company but no one at United but we can't even talk to anyone from Global Services.

$1,000,000 with UA? How many travelers, and what fare classes do you typically buy?

$1M for how many people? Are they on F, C, and full fare tickets? High volume of high revenue fares are the keys.
Hilarious. Thanks for the good laugh. There will always be someone with higher status who is treated better. My lowly 3P wife marvels at the treatment we get travelling together.

We send about 22 people world wide and we have 3 staff who are 1Ks. I would use United much more and would even be willing to pay higher fees but it is virtually impossible to contact a Global Services person to even discuss this with.
