We'll have to see what it gets reduced to after the negotiations. It'll still be big, but not nearly as big as the FAA has proposed (if history means anything).

The issue is two years old, but the fine is new.

987 thanks for the "Gamers" perspective on the chances of a DEQM I would truly enjoy the pontifcation of the likes of Schley, WineCounty, Jacoubsky, Jason Dulles, Mathasman, to mention just a few of the veteran UA pundants.
I was just explaining that the only people who can come to any reasonable conclusion are those on the inside. There are probably fewer than 50 people on this Earth who could tell you if there will be a EQM promo. Anybody else is just making an assumption on incomplete information.

I was able to access the page about ten minutes ago, but now all I see if source code. Perhaps they're working on it right now? I'd be really happy if my SFO-SYD itin qualified for DEQM!!
Programs: Final flight as 1K on 1/21/11; fun while it lasted, 1P in 2011, Plat for 2012

But there were benefits to flying more; additional SWUs at various levels, weren't there?

(b) There's also the effect, real or imagined, of diluting the benefits of 1K by including people who really didn't "earn" it. Not having cleared about 25% of my upgrades this year, I certainly thought dilution was at least a factor (along with capacity issues).
Are you talking domestic or international? For domestic, I don't think we can make reasonable year-to-year comparisons, given the advent of UDU and suddenly being thrown into competition for F seats with anyone & everyone of similar or higher status, whether they would have been willing to use resources for that seat (e500s) or not. So last year, if you were flying SFO-IAD, you were only competing with others who decided they also wanted to use their resources to score that seat. There was a downside to wanting that seat, since you didn't have a limitless supply of e500s or CR1s. You used them when you really wanted to. This year? You have to go to more trouble than it's worth to try and turn one down, and for elite-heavy routes, yikes, that upgrade standby list scrolls for page after page after page!
International you've got the declining percentage of C seats plus, unquestionably, people like me that wouldn't have become 1K under normal circumstances.

Of course that web link could simply be someone at UA "playing" with us.
Or it could simply be UA positioning themselves to be ready in case another airline jumps in with a DEQM offer. Of course that again raises the question

I'm sure this link has been posted somewhere in this thread...not planning on a DEQM - looking like it's gonna be a lot of sweat, tears and money for some MR's over Q4 to make 1K.
It amazes me how many promotions US is currently running with their Hop, Skip and Jump, select cities DEQM till Dec 31, Grand Slam...etc. I wonder what their elite pool will look like at the end of the year...
Any other 1K's get the e-mail from United Mileage Plus with the tease of how to maintain your 1K status into next year? The answer was "Fly More" . . .

Seems a little like a tease . . .
Yes, there is an entire thread mocking that particular e-mail, as well as subsequent, equally stupid e-mails.
