IAD-AMS on 777 - will they change aircraft on me?

I'm looking at a flight for next June: UA IAD-AMS for first. As of now, they show this as being a 777 which would have a flat suite. But I noticed on a search that they sometimes sell 767 (no flat suite) on this route as well. Does this mean I am in danger of losing my flat suite? Or does UA try to stick to the aircraft type they initially sold the route as?

And by the way, I'm not holding out hope for the new seats. Just trying to stay flat.

Wirelessly posted (xx: BlackBerry8100/4.5.0.55 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)

I'd say there is no guarantee you'll be in a 777, aircraft swaps happen all the time. The good news is that by next June you'll likely have a better than 50% chance of getting a new configuration 767

going the flight leaves at 5:20 p.m.

Unless you have pretty good pills, I suspect you aren't going to get much use of the flat suite.

True - but this will be part of a larger Asian itinerary and coming back we'll definitely be tired. I think we're going to take the risk and book it...

Aircraft changes happen, but you have the best chance of a 777 by booking a 777. No guarantee of course, but IME aircraft changes are rare. A year out though, anything can happen, but like was said, if it is swapped to a 767 it may very well be the new flat suite.

Due to crew positioning, I'd expect any aircraft change would be known about months in advance so you could adjust plans accordingly, but as others have mentioned the odds of having a new configuration 767 by next summer will be very high.

I believe this flight has been a 777 for a very long time. Needless to say that does not guarantee anything.

This flight has typically operated with a 777, but is currently flying with a 767 (and the ORD flight, conversely, is operating with a 777 rather than the typical 767). The IAD route is scheduled to get the 777 back next summer and I think that will likely happen.

Never any guarantee with the airline industry these days.

Look at it this way... there are only 21 internationally-configured 767's. They've converted 7 of those. 14 left at 1 per month. By the time July rolls around they'll have done 10 more at their current pace, meaning that out of 21 planes, 17-19 will have been converted - one will be in the shop. You're in great shape regardless.

As others have said, IAD-AMS is still currently scheduled to be a 777 through the end of schedule in mid-2009, but of course this is subject to change.

I agree with TonySCV that with the 767 configuration progress, you should have a pretty good chance by mid-2009 of getting the new 767 if indeed IAD-AMS becomes a 767.

All bets are off with the international cabins being upgraded. True there is probably a 50% chance of having a new cabin at that point. If comfort is your concern coming off of an Asia trip, go Lufthansa. Their newer cabins are just like the new UAL international. Food is better too.

I'll agree the food in F is better on LH than on UA, but their F seats are not private suites.
