Long Layover and checked bags through LHR

Long Layover and checked bags through LHR
Sorry if this has been answered before but based on the search the most recent thread is 7yrs old and I didn't want to bump it.
I am flying IAD-LHR-CPT with an intentionally long layover in LHR of 23hrs and 5 minutes. I need to check a bag and in the past have always interlined from UA to SAA without any problems but the layovers were about 8 hours.
Does anyone have recent experience regarding if this will allow me to check the bag all the way through? I have read maximum is 24 hours for layovers but that was not LHR specific.
I would prefer not to have to collect the checked bag, clear customs, take it on the train etc...
