Novice ? - Can I use my United Airlines Points to Book a Flight on SAA?
Hi there,
I am an admitted novice in the traveling world. I have 100,000 United points and want to book a trip to South Africa. South African Airlines is in the Star Alliance. Does this mean I can use my United points to book an SAA flight?
Thank you so much in advance.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!
Assuming that you can find the seats available on SAA then, yes, you can book a UA award on SA metal.

Yes, you can. You won't able to see award availability on the United website, so you'll need to call International Reservations.
Economy award seats (which is all you have enough for) are generally not that difficult to find to South Africa other than at very peak periods. I flew my family of 3 PDX-IAD-JNB and back last year. Good luck!

Yup...
Call United Reservations!
After they change you $50 for the purchase...shoot them an email.
I got them to waive the fee
