Sadly UA can (and often do) vary the rules on any fare they sell.

Whilst some rules apply airline wide, EACH ticket has specific rules which can vary.

A W fare sold from here might have min 5 day stay, max 30. From EZE is might vary a lot from that.

A Q fare sold from here may have a $500 cancel fee, but $100 if sold from Hong Kong.

A V fare from LHR-LAX might have a 'no stopover' rule, but a V fare from LAX-LHR may allow an en-route stop etc.

A H fare from SYD-Brazil may allow up tp 5 on line transfers, and a H fare sold from other makrets may insist on non-stops etc.

In general yes. In fact even a 200 mile flight gets the 500 minimum miles.

But you are wrong about "any" UA flight getting miles. Lots of tickets do not - even ones where $$$s are outlaid such as reduced "AD" industry fares, part paid staff and staff sponsored tickets, many 2 for 1 TA deals etc.

SWU question on multi day itinerary
I have this screwy March Madness trip which is

dca-lax (overnight) lax-nrt-hkg (overnight) sin

it's in w class.

I've never used a SWU.

Assuming I'm able to get one in coupon connection (quite an assumption), can someone walk me through what happens on multi day itineraries.

does one swu cover everything on the trip to singapore, though it's over like three or four days or does it only cover some part of the trip?

Answer from luv2fly2 (slighty edited to reflect later minor correction)

As of Nov. 1 2005 no stopover of more than 11 hours and 59 minutes is permitted when using a SWU on one continous journey. In other words, if LHR-iad-sfo-hnl-nrt and you don't stop more than 12 hrs in any one city 1 SWU should work. If longer, it could cost 2 or more depending on the length of stopover.

Unless you can post some fare codes here that are not covered in post #1 I'd guess it was 'valid' enough.

Rather curious why your first post in this forum in over a month would need to raise this point with no specifics you might be referring to?

If you are aware of any changes to descriptors to United fare-codes, please post here. That is how consolidated threads like this stay accurate.

Sorry I didn't write back sooner. I'm not exactly sure what you're implying ozstamps, but my message had no hidden meaning. I'm trying to help a friend book tickets out several months, and he wants to use miles to upgrade. I have no idea which booking classes to look for; there are several that would appear to have some relevance (I, O, X?) but it's not entirely clear which I should be looking for. "I" doesn't show up at all when I try to find it on ExpertFlyer.com.

I'm just looking for some guidance, and I thought I would ask whether the list was still up to date. If you have any assistance to offer on this question (i.e. what booking class should one look for to find availability of mileage upgrades - he's traveling MCI to OGG if that helps), it would be greatly appreciated.

Question: I'm booked on a DCA-YUL codeshare flight UA/Air Canada Jazz. The outbound segment is listed as "A" class. Does this mean it's a discounted first class fare? My seat (9F) is definitely not in first class.

So I'm looking at availability now for my potential outbound flight, and it says

I also looked at the seat map, but coach seats are still wide open. I know it's not really accurate because some people might not have seat assiginment yet.
I read somewhere in this thread saying it's hard to find K fare.
My potential inbound flight shows

I get V (out) and W (in) fares when I price the flights at United.bomb
Do you think United will release the K fare eventually for the outbound flight, or I won't see K fare???

It sounds to me like there may not be a currently published 'K' fare for the market you're interested in... so why does UA release 'K' inventory? Probably to allow people with current 'K' fares to make changes

FWIW, I have seen 'K' fares only as special fares/sales (e-fares or e-fare specials) on international markets.

Last night I checked availability, and I noticed airplane change from 757-200 to 767-300ER, and the availability also changed
from

now I get W instead of V, so price got $30 cheaper than before, but still very expensive.
This morning I checked the avialability again and it changed again.

Now all S and T fares are suddenly gone, but still the airplace looks very empty, very strange, I think.
What's happening??? Do they add and delete certain fares all the time???

Suddenly S and T fare showed up again, but United.bomb is not offereing S or T fare
However, I found out that UnitedEscapes is offereing T fare on the flight as a package.
Does that mean United.bomb never offers S or T fares on the flight?
I already have a hotel and I don't need a car

Many have found here that the fare difference can often be 3 figures on the package deals over lowest web/agent fare, in which case being a no show at the hotel will still likely put you in front $$ wise. You have not told us the city pairs or price so no-one can really assist too much.
