In the early 70s, CO offered three classes of service on their B707, 720, 727 and 747s. First Class and Club Coach were served free meals and snacks. Zip for Economy, except to HNL, when a buffet was avail for purchase. Free drinks in first, avail for purchase in Coach and Economy.

IIRC UA did use these on premium heavy routes, but wonder how often OP-UPs happened which I have to assume was quite often.

Over the years, the battleship gray livery has been widely debated amongst UA followers.
I like it. It is unique and daring at the time of introduction back in 1993. It is so different than most of the airlines' white based livery out there. It stands out at the airport around the world.
The current UA livery is the PMCO livery that was first introduced in 1991. Two years before the battle ship gray livery.

one big plus in the grey livery was the addition of the words "worldwide service" front left bottom half. That livery is how I began MP membership and literally flew around the world on UA 1/2. With key segments on the 744. "Worldwide service" totally resonated.

all good points. My favorite is the final PMUA livery though.

I also did several UA 1/2 flights in the late 90s, and seeing the battleship gray planes in foreign locations made me feeling closer to home.

The lavatory ratio on that PE era 747 was 39:1 in coach though. Not too awful.
