CO didn't run 747 service, and they (or folks from external) run things now. What incentive or connection would they have?
when they announced the 747 retirement they did promise memorable. A silly ICN-SFO humdrum will be momorably bad. Even Seinfeld had a better ending (and it was awful)

I'm feeling very nostalgic. I saw my first 747 while changing planes at ORD as a little kid. I was so exciting I almost drooled on the window (shadows of a FF future, I guess). If it truly is the last stop for one of those UA birds at O'Hare I'd have at least driven out to see it take off if I'd realized. Sad day.

I can say with some level of certainty that the final details are not done yet for the 747 retirement "celebration" ... I don't know any details about what is/isn't being planned, but I know that whatever that planning is, is ongoing.
So don't lose hope for more domestic hops. In fact, especially given this week's activities, I'd expect more of them.

Of course, the real coup would be if UA announces the final 747 farewell domestic flight...one day after Delta retires theirs.
Last I recall (could be wrong, maybe it's changed), DL was going to retire their 747 fleet a month or two after UA.

That was the original 747 window arrangement. The first bunch of 747-100s and a few -200s were built that way. Then Boeing changed the window layout to add a bunch more, when airlines decided to put seats up there instead of a lounge.

The upper deck on the -100 and -200 were the same size, IIRC the only difference to the -200 was better engines, larger MTOW, and increased range... See
UA also converted some of the -100s to add more windows to the upper deck.
When the 747 was being created they upper deck was added so a cargo door could be put in the nose thus requiring the cockpit to be somewhere else, the Boeing engineers originally expected the upper deck to be a crew rest area (or not for pax) however when Juan Trippe (CEO of PA) saw it he decided to put a lounge there, then when deregulation occured airlines realized that wasted space is lost revenue so they decided to put seats there, and the rest is history.

The -100 or -200 could not fly nonstop from LAX to SYD. Hence all the airlines stopped in HNL or PPT. CO had a great hub in HNL with non stops to MEL, SYD, BNE, CNS, GUM, NRT, LAX, DEN, SFO, etc. 747s and DC10s.
Flew the CO 747-200 many times from EWR to LHR.
Loved the DC10-10s from LAX to HNL with the large lounge between F and Y. And open to all. Bar, open lounge seats, etc.
747-400 killed it all.

While I can't put my finger on the details right now, I'm quite certain that the 747-100 and SP I flew upstairs on were no where near as long as the 747-400 upper deck. Articles I found make reference to the fact that even the 747-8 has a -100 style upper deck when configured for cargo rather than the SUD (Stretched Upper Deck).
But I'm happy to be proven wrong if there is supporting data.

I think maybe you intended to put a link there?
