This appears to be an aircraft respositioning from Andrews AFB and not an official "AVGeek Farewell 747 flight". Y is completely open, upstairs is gone, and only a few J seats remain downstairs. I think this is just good luck for anyone who gets on it, but don't expect anything formal in terms of fleet retirement activities.

Actually, someone beat you to this for once - in a different thread.

Nonetheless, great opportunity, and one I will pass on due to trip to Asia very soon.

WBBM CBS news radio in Chicago did a short piece on United's 747 retirement mentioning the special flight on July 28, 2017. I checked. Seats are still available at a reasonable price, but I decided to pass. I will enjoy my memories of my many 747 flights on United - which began in the late seventies with a flight from ORD to HNL on a 747-200 in C and ended a few years ago with a trip from SYD to LAX in C.

Appreciating the seat map is never an accurate indication of how full the flight is booked - it is great to see how occupied the F and J cabins are compared to to the coach section already.

Not great for those of us who are just seeing this and having all the seats gone :-/.

I need to get on one of these before it's too late.

Apologies, I can only imagine the front cabins are full BECAUSE it was posted here. I was surprised that an aeroplane movement after mechanical would be scheduled > 48 hours in advance - thinking they would want it back to base pronto.

i wonder how she's getting to ORD in the first place - military charter?
I believe a 744 diverted to UA a few days ago and now needs to be repositioned back to SFO

Now F0 J0 and a ghost town in the back.. I'm really impressed at the demand for the flight. I'm guessing next time UA does this they won't just let every seat go to O and I class. Glad I'm getting my 747 farewell on ICN than trying to snag one of these domestic swaps.

UACO seems to again have no clue about how to handle the retirement of the 747s. If they plan to have some celebration, let it be known. These one-off's will happen and UACO can't do anything meaningful to tie them into the retirement.

Thumbs up Flight UA 2704 ORD-SFO on 7/28

I jumped on this "nostalgia" flight, as I'm calling it. The front and upstairs is full but the back is wide open!!

Come one, come all!!

If anyone else will be on it tomorrow evening please post.

14K. I am in Chicago on business and I originally was on the 12 o'clock flight back to SFO. $200 change fee? Worth it!!

I believe they are just tight lipped about it as it is still months away, as if you pay attention to the UA fleet site, quite a few of them actually won't leave the fleet not til November 20

I had decided to pass too as seats are not reasonable to me, the one way Y class fare is basically the normal roundtrip Y fare for this route. If i want to spend that much i would rather wait til the last flight.
