OZ Flight delay, switch to non*A flight and not allowed access to OZ lounge?

Totally understand. I was just pointing out that if the husband was trying to qualify as GS via challenge, he might not be aware of the UA metal only aspect. Not just for this trip, but any other mileage runs he might take.

I would have been THRILLED if they moved me to another non alliance airline, in Business which left only a little after my original flight. I would have considered that fantastic service. You could have waited the 4 hours and spent a lot of time enjoying the OZ lounge. I would rather have been in my hotel room in HAN.
As to the lounges, Asiana Lounges are much nicer than United's (think the nicest sky clubs with better premium booze) and they are slighly nicer IMHE than KEs (but to be fair, it has been a few years since I have flown KE) but they are not as nice as say the ANA/JAL are. Technically the Asiana Agents are correct, and IMHE oversees they often follow the letter of the rules (LH is particularly known for this, so is SQ).

You can actually credit twice for this.
1) Ask for original routing credit through UA to get your MileagePlus miles.
2) You could have attached a SkyTeam number to your KE flight and gotten credit there also. Usually for IRROPS rebooking it books into full J/C or Y or F so you get the bonus miles as well.

Unless you look like an "Asian businessman" in which case it's a YES and a deeper bow. Every time I fly ANA, difference in service and amount of deference given to me vs. local men in suits is quite striking, though admittedly service is still quite good and I have little to complain about.

United does not operate flights to Vietnam. They use codeshare and interline partners to get their passengers to Vietnam.

Meanwhile on my last UA SFO-HND I was denied a JPN meal because I am not JPN.

To OP: it sounds to me like OZ gave you great service. Remember that they are foregoing revenues to put you in the same class on KE.
I would complain to United about the 4 hour mechanical delay.

According to OP, the mechanical delay was on OZ; otherwise, it would have been UA's responsibility to re-accommodate.
It's not even clear to me that this belongs in the UA forum. All UA did was sell the ticket and deliver the passengers to ICN on time.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. Never mind then.
OZ First Class lounge is nice, but I am not fond of the OZ Business Class lounge. KE Lounge sucks.

KE flights usually depart from eastern gates near KE lounge while OZ flights usually depart from western gates near OZ lounge. OP likely need to make the same long walk from west to east to board KE flight. The only difference is to take the walk before or after lounge use.
