Someone mentioned it's a business decision related to new FAA mandate regarding fuel tank safety which will be implemented in 2018.
Absolutely agree, the sUA 752 went from 3 class to 2 class with AVOD on the entire plane, dont really understand why they dump them so fast, especially they spend a lot of money to rewire the entire plane in order to have AVOD.
The 77G, at least for those that were 77D, originally have AVOD on the entire plane when it was 3 class, now strip out everything in Y, no difference than any domestic planes now.

6 of the 15 sUA ps 752s are younger than half of the sCO 752s. While it might not make sense to keep those n a small 752 fleet, these should be OK for freighter conversion. Does the fuel tank issue cover cargo aircraft as well? You'd think UA or whoever bought the 1997-99 units would do the tank repair.

IIRC the fuel tank FAA thing is to add nitrogen generators to fill the empty tanks with Nitrogen vs ambient air which could start a fire/explosion. The FAA thing is a direct result of the NTSB investigation results from the TWA 800 incident.
I believe that cargo aircraft are exempt.
The pmUA 752s have PW2000 engines. They are now unique to the fleet. Having such a small sub fleet doesn't make sense from a spares and maintenance perspective even though they are younger than the pmCO 752s which are RR RB211 equipped. I believe that PW no longer provides PIPs for the PW2000 whereas RR still actively supports the RB211.

I don't believe so, in addition to having to get the the engines there would have be to be a lot of computer work and electronics work done. I also recall reading that the PW powered 757s don't have some of the required navigation equipment for TATL which would need to be installed in order to maintain fleet commonality.

No 757 has ever been re-engined and this would be as very expensive and extensive project. No way that's ever going to happen with aircraft as old as these (and nobody has ever expressed an interest). The youngest UA 757 with PW engines is N598UA - first flown on Jan. 6th, 1999. 18 years ago.

Just saw on Twitter that Airways Magazine has a story on the UA fleet. Probably took much of the data from the Fleet site, but that's fine.
https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/united- ... leet-plan/
This brings a question regarding the 772A conversions. I was assuming 772ER conversions would provide the lie flat BF seats to complete the converstion, but if the 763ER 3 class aircraft have the same BF seat, maybe the 763s will get converted first and allow needed seats.
Does anyone know if the 763 seats are the same and what the Polaris conversion plan is for the 763 and 772ERs?

IF 763 seats are the same, there are already 26*7=182 units leftover from 2016 763 3-cabin to 2-cabin conversion.
Rough maths suggests that's enough to cover the shortage:

That probably answers the question as UA hasn't brought more Hawaian units in. My count shows there is 1 excess set of window seats after mods completed and in HKG.
I would assume that means they're waiting for 772 Polaris mods.
