UA has announced that the SFO Polaris lounge is opening 30 April 2018

Summary
The International UC is closed for renovation to a Polaris Club. The SQ & BR lounges have been closed and will be integrated into the new facility. Polaris lounge open 30 April 2018.
SFO Polaris Lounge opens 30 April 2018 (Previews - Press 25th, MP 27th)

The old GFL (near G99) has been converted into a premium cabin international lounge (not an UC). Eventually, it will be converted into a UC for the non-premium cabin international passengers (*G in economy). Now operating as an United Club

The F and E concourse UCs plus again the temporary mezzanine UC lounge (across from Gate 71) are options for those not eligible for the temporary G premium cabin international lounge.

Previous Updates

1 Oct 2017 on united.com
On October 1, the United Club location in the International Terminal will be closed to launch its transition into a United Polaris lounge. An additional United Club location will open across from Gate 71A on the mezzanine level at the end of September. Customers departing out of the International Terminal should allow 10-15 minutes to walk to their gate from the United Club location in Gate 71A or Concourse F.

Closure of San Francisco SilverKris Lounge for renovations

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in San Francisco will be closed for renovations starting from 01 October 2017. As part of the renovations, Singapore Airlines will begin a transition to a newly constructed, shared lounge facility operated by our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines. It is scheduled to open in early 2018.
Earlier thread summary
Summary of posts suggest the present SFO Global First Lounge will be available for much of first half of 2017. Reports are that the current Global First Lounge will become a "regular" UC, while the current international (G Terminal) UC will become a Polaris club (which will integrate the space currently housing the SQ & BR lounges). UA is also constructing a new UC, either in Terminal G or E (or both). Construction has begun in the G Terminal United Club, a large portion of which is now boarded off. Latest info from UA suggests "summer 2018" for the SFO Polaris lounge opening.

I share your perspective that it is United's prerogative to differentiate F/J; At the same time feel that at SFO where AA/Amex/DL offer showers to all lounge pax, this undermines the *A/UA value proposition.

would like to check on when will the SQ lounge actually "close down" and/or the new polaris lounge be open? Will be flying through on international J class so hopefully be able to access a lounge with showers.

Well since UC will be moving to the IFL space, lets hope the two showers in IFL will remain open.

I guess it depends on the layout, but I would think the current IFL will be too small for United Club. For a start, there is not enough bathroom to go around.

It would be nice, but I think UA is moving towards a lounge model with showers only in Polaris lounges domestically. Polaris customers and *A premium cabin int'l customers will get shower access at SFO. My guess is United doesn't think shower availability is a primary (or secondary, or tertiary) deal-breaker for most of the rest of the travelers - it isn't for me (unfortunately for the rest of you ). Out of the Bay area, opting for a carrier with showers vs UA convenience would be a stretch for a lot of people.

And almost off-topic - the Centurion lounge's location at SFO must irk some Delta flyers to no end.

I would venture to guess that the number of passengers who have occasion/desire/time to use a shower while passing through a UA lounge is in the very low single digit percentages.

If not lower
Talking to the attendant in ORD the last time I flew through, it was under 50 people per day using the showers at the UA club

You're probably correct. But if I'm flying a redeye and I can choose between an airline that offers showers in its lounges and one that doesn't, I'm picking the former - especially if I have a full day of business ahead of me.

I guess I don't understand what the big deal is, are y'all coming straight from the gym?

I enjoy a good shower now and then but its typically AFTER the flight, not before.

Coming into SFO from Asia, arriving at 6:25am this Thursday, the first stop is the United arrivals shower. I feel a hundred times better and refreshed, as I need to connect on to Boston plus catch up on the work I missed overnight. The same is true at the LH lounges in Germany when flying into Europe with early arrivals and customer meetings as soon as I land. Totally changes my whole day.

talking to a Rep this morning at GS checkin counter.
current UC will turn into new Polaris lounge
current GFL will turn into new UC lounge and then they will take some more space opposite (around gate 93) To expand the size.

thought I would share

Did the rep mention when the GFL will close for renovations?

Is there any update on this? The BR and SQ lounges are still open.

Of course American Express Platinum customers have free access to the new SFO DL SkyClub which offers quite nice food and showers.
