Large stuffed animal as carry on

Hi, we'll be leaving Disney World shortly, and my daughter decided she wanted this huge Stitch stuffed animal. What's the policy for this? We are also sitting in row 1 on one segment. Will she be able to sit with him, or will he need to ride in the overhead storage?

Define huge. Without measurements, it is a subjective term. I've seen a toddler carry on a stuffed animal about 2 ft. tall, which I would think is huge (relative for the kid's size).

It's a about 3-4 feet tall and about as wide. I would say it's the size of a small fat child

Sounds big enough that it would not fit in the overhead bins.

Sounds big enough that it would block egress in an emergency.

Sounds big enough that it would not be normally eligible for carry on.

Might even be a problem for checked luggage but that would probably be the best option. My guess the folks at the airport are use to such needs.

Sounds heavy enough that it could become a dangerous projectile if not secured in the cabin.

I think that is more than likely. It may be a YMMV based on individual FA's. Some are stickler for rules, like nothing in bulkhead seats (including purses). I had a particularly militant FA that threatened a woman to be removed if she didn't put a medium sized purse in the overhead because nothing larger than a small paperback book was allowed. He forced me to put my laptop above for storage (I slid it to the side of my window seat to avoid having to put it away).

At any rate, I think if it is going to take a sizeable amount of seat (which seems like it will at 3 feet across), you will run the risk that an FA gives you grief.

Maybe one of our resident FA's can give their opinion.

You would for this:

It would be the only time I wouldn't mind a POS sitting next to me

I'd suggest that you buy heavy duty garbage bin liners. I suspect you will be required to check the bear unless the flight is going out with empty seats. I'd double bag the bear if forced to check in hopes that it will survive undamaged.

Great idea, I'll ask for some before we check out and keep them on me in case it needs to get gate checked. Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully she can ride with her Stitch!

Do you think it will fit through the xray machine at the security checkpoint?

Seems unlikely to me based on the described dimensions.

Why angst? Just send it home via FedEx Ground or UPS.

I think it will. I might have exaggerated the dimensions, as I'm not good with eyeballing that stuff.

Mailing it home might be an idea, but she wants to hug it and carry it if she can, so I'll roll the dice and see what they say.

If you can find one you can stuff it into, get a Rubbermaid tub and roll of duct tape and tape in like crazy. Then check it.
