When pmUA retired the 737 classics, they did flight United 737 and they visited all the hubs.
Routing was IAD-ORD-DEN-LAX-SFO all same-day.
A group of FT folks did a meet-up and a number rode the entire day's legs.
Would be nice if they could do that with the 747. Not realistic to hit all of the hub but they should at least hit the pmUA ones that had 747 service.

And PEX pioneered the concept of buy on-board, at least for a US carrier. Did any other FTers splurge to enhance their $99 ride EWR-LGW on a 747 by ordering a bottle of champagne in flight?

You are forgetting DEN
Didn't UA fly EWR-LHR in the 80s and 90s on a 742?
Edit: it was 741s, 742s, and 74SP, in the 70s, 80s, and 90s

I saw one once. It was the charter bird and it was coming back from Sochi after the Winter Olympics. I have pictures (somewhere). I'll see if I can dig them up. It was visible from the Terminal C (120) United Club when you were in the Bar Area. That was a great spot to see all the big planes pull up the 12x/13x Gates.
On another note, I watched them change the tire on a 767 once too. It was quite interesting to watch that in action.

Saw the UA historical display at SFO this morning for the first time. Great exhibit. Has anyone uploaded photos?
I had time to take one picture of their farewell to the 747. It notes in the fine print that 2017 will be UA's last year flying this plane.

https://imgur.com/a/bBLYC (these are all my photos) ought to be just about everything (except the pictures on the *back* of the displays visible only from the travelators). Sorry about the glare
Thanks for the upload ^
Hope it's still there when I connect in over a month @:-)

Every time I think I have taken my final flight on a 747, somehow I end up on another flight. So looking forward to another UD flight experience on August 3 LHR-SFO.
Fond memories of the 747 as the UD was the majority of my flights between the USA and Australia (until they replaced the flights with the 777). Going to miss the "bubble" as it is known in my family.
I also enjoyed my 1A experience a couple of years ago - nose of the plane has been a flight highlight! :-) Have done it a couple of times since but nothing like the rush of that first time experience.
