UA operated by Swiss. Class P is Business or First?

Hello. I'm new here and would like to get piece of advice. I found a flight WAW-JFK on Google Flights in First Class. But when it moves me to UA website it shows that first flight to NY is in Business and return is United BusinessFirst. Flights are operated by Swiss and Code Class is P. So do i get a business seat or first? And do i get M&M for P Class?

P is discounted Business Class, and it will earn you 100% Miles in the Miles and More program.

just note, all 4 segments are operated by Swiss (no UA segment here). The 333 is a decent ride on Swiss IMO. 100% miles indeed plus any applicable bonus based on your M&M status. UA P maps to LX P; never seen any exceptions to this.

Avoid codeshares if you care about miles or upgrades.

For a $1500 TATL business class fare, many will take that risk.

I'd jump on that fare. Why would anyone care about upgrades if you're already flying P? Only disadvantage is it doesn't earn lifetime mileage because it isn't UA metal, but at that price, meh.

OP seems to care else he/she would not have asked.

If it tickets under UA ticket code (016), I think OP should also get PQD for the spend if qualification for UA status is important.

It appears to me that OP's confusion is caused by UA's term BusinessFirst for Business Class. The extra First is unnecessarily confusing to anyone not used to UA's terms. UA should go back to Business and First.

Correct. One very good reason to buy UA codeshares these days if you're trying to get/maintain status.

AND for the multipliers! If I have to fly to Europe on a $6k ticket on LH/LX metal I'd rather get 60k miles than 20k!

First (P) does come up on third party websites

I have certainly seen this on UA (swiss) codeshares with tickets sourced on non-UA websites. I think that is what the OP is asking as on google flights it clearly states First (P). He should have posted screenshoot from google flights and not his secondary search on UA.

If you try ITA software you will see that come up on some routes ex-JFK via ZRH. I have never myself bought such a First (P) fare to know how it will ticket.

For example this is fare rules from a ticket from JFK to BOM.

Fare 1: Carrier UA PW1RC7E NYC to BOM (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code P
Covers JFK-ZRH (First), ZRH-BOM (Business)
$2,279.50
Fare 2: Carrier UA PX1RC7E BOM to EWR (rules)

P fares are generally not upgradable.
