UA fleet consolidation Spring 2016: LAX->Int'l is on the 787 and 767/777 back to IAH

@airlineroute on Twitter has the following moves taking place by spring 2016:

LAX international routes will be flown exclusively with the 787. No more GF from the US's second largest city in a matter of months.

IAH will see a return of more 767/777, replacing the 787s destined for LAX. I'm assuming LOS will remain a 787 route?

All Australia routes will be 789 by northern summer 2016.

Again, all credit to @airlineroute. He's a good follow.

Brace yourselves... this thread might get ugly.

This is the downline impact of 10x three-cabin 777s being converted to two-cabin/domestic ships.

Yikes. So 787 was a "game changer" after all... at LAX.

i assume that LAX-LHR will survive this change, which is a bit surprising given UA's propensity to use these "changes you will like" as an excuse to run from heated competition.

A quick search on .bomb still shows the 777 loaded for LAX-LHR and LAX-SYD in July 2016.

Those routes are flown with sUA three class 777 which don't typically operate from Houston.

It's a schedule update that will probably be pushed later this week or over the weekend.

This is excellent news. Push all the Dreamliners to other major cities and keep those sCO 777's where they belong - IAH! I'm less than thrilled about NRT-IAH going to a 789 for a few months in the 1Q-16, but will be pleased when they return in 2Q-16. The Dreamliners reliability issues were the deal breaker for me. I would always fly NRT-DEN-IAH in 2013 and early 2014, but when the 788 broke due to spoiler issues two times on the same aircraft causing my DEN-IAH flight to be cancelled and me missing an important meeting in IAH, I went back to the 777 and will stay with the 777. Good riddance.

https://twitter.com/airlineroute

According to the website above:

UNITED's Asia-Pacific service from San Francisco to move to 747-400 and 787 by Spring 2016

UNITED plans to fly 787-9 from San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda and Taipei in Spring/Summer 2016, and to Seoul from 01AUG16

UNITED to move Australia service to all-Boeing 787-9 operation by Northern Spring/Summer 2016

No it is not... don't believe all the negativity you read on here. I haven't flow the 787 in Y but in J it was a great experience.

My colleague (a MM 1K on UA) flew IAH-LHR and back in Y earlier this year with his family and they all loved it. He is looking forward to more 787 options, even in Y.

I flew LHR-IAH 3 weeks ago and it was fine. The seat is narrower at 17.3" but I only noticed it a few times. It is still adequately wide. The recline in E+ is very generous, it reclined more than any other widebody in UA that I can remember and since the seat bottom slides forward it helps as well.

The ceiling, windows, and air pressure more than make up the difference for the slightly narrower seat.

My only gripe is that the IFE touchscreen is resistive so it responds to pressure.
The IFE in PS 752, and 764 is capactive so it is much more responsive. There was also no channel 9 but that seems few and far between.

That's funny.... He was one of the first impacts I thought about when I initially read this as well.

As others have mentioned, I think it'll be telling as to whether LAX-LHR goes 787 so soon. I would think it would be one of those two or three routes UA would keep 3-class as long as possible because of the [presumed] F demand.

Also, the IAH-LOS flight (assuming it sticks around and has to remain 788) likely means there will be a domestic DEN-IAH and/or IAH-LAX 788 turn indefinitely.

Its the worst aircraft in Y. Are they really reducing Sydney to a 789?

Something about shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic... won't fix the product, won't fix the operations.
