I see the ghetto 772 on DEN-LAX frequently, and avoid it like a CRJ-200. Almost no chance for an upgrade. If you do get a last minute upgrade, good chance you land in one of the hated middle-of-the-middle seats in the 8 across coffin-class. Meanwhile it's cattle-car at its worst in the back. They can't retire these soon enough for me.

The 3-class pmUA772 will all be converted to Polaris seats.

A regular domestic first vs a narrow lie flat for a short trip during the day? Yeah, during a daytime short flight I am not going to try and sleep, so I will be sitting up anyways. I would rather be able to move my arms, personally.

For a 5-hour non-red eye Hawaii<>West Coast flight, I would take 1AB on a 753 over any middle seat on a 8-across 777. That is the only situation where I would not take the lie-flat, though...

I flew one of 2-4-2 772's SFO-HNL yesterday. Was it a little cramped? Yes. But still better than the UA F recliners. It's not even close. I took a nap, played some video games, and was comfortable for the whole flight.
Just because it's a lie-flat doesn't mean you have to go into full flat bed mode. Having your feet up with significant recline is a very comfortable option when you are not sleeping.

UA2172 Boeing 777-200A
So my flight UA2172 was a 777-200A. After playing around with the app, it looks like it been relegated to domestic duties going from hub to hub and LAX(Is it a hub anymore?) It's one of the birds with the rear facing PMUA seats. Are they just filling in with the 777 while not needed to fly international or is there more to this? I also noticed that I'll be on another 777 again on my LAX - IAH flight come late August which based on flight UA2172, is the same aircraft that turns and heads back to IAH.
