20 Years Ago Today UA launched the 777

Twenty years ago today UA launched the Boeing 777 with three AC:

N777UA (SN 26916 / LN 7): UA921 LHR-IAD, UA911 IAD-ORD, UA941 ORD-DEN
N766UA (SN 26917 / LN 8): UA910 DEN-ORD-IAD, UA918 IAD-LHR
N767UA (SN 26918 / LN 9): UA303 IAD-ORD, UA940 ORD-FRA

Thank you to GCMap.com for the reminder and information ^. Were any Flyertalkers on any of those first flights? Mr. Madone59 Sr. was on the first UA940 FRA-ORD....the 777 luggage tag is on his bag to this day.

I remember in 1995, I had to fly from Cincinnati to Boston. I was a DL flyer then.

But rather than taking the nonstop, I flew UA CVG-ORD-IAD-BOS just to try the 777 on the ORD-IAD leg.

It was like flying in a living room!

I missed the first ones, but flew ORD-LHR on 777 about 5 days after they'd started. Out in C, op-up to F on the return! :D

So they deadheaded a 777 to LHR and started commercial service there? Why?
