98k miles in 5 months (but 2 calendar years) still Silver

my assistant flew 49k miles Nov and Dec and 49K so far this year but still considered SS(Silver Scum) by United.

Is this calendar year thing qualification a little bit of an outdated concept?

no, it's not. Honestly, @ 49k it is pretty easy to get to 50k with longer routings. It was clearly not important to get gold, so why is it now?

How much did they spend? All on UA metal and tickets? What fare classes? FYI - Redeemable miles and preferred qualifying miles aren't the same.... We need more information to help you....

Why would I fly longer routings so my assistant can get status?

I don't think your assistant is very good to let the boss worry about this stuff.

Any of us on FT would be a better assistant on this front and I think some of us will want to work for you to fly F and C TPAC Some of us even come with lifetime status on UA so you never have to worry about that! Of course, status does not matter as much when flying F or C anyway.

I see, that wasn't clear. You assistant could easily fly the extra 1k miles w/o you to get at least gold if that is what is desired.

There are programs in *A with rolling status; easiest would have been to credit to a different FFP.

Do your purchase direct or use a consolidator (corporate travel agent)?

Assuming you have the PQD or are non-US resident (appears to be the case), you could have bought the needed PQM via Premier Accelerator, too. And still could to get Gold now if desired...

If in paid C or F on mostly international trips, status really does not gain you all that much!

Too difficult to manage, and nobody else in *A supports it. The only program I know of that used to have rolling qualification (Hilton) switch to a calendar year system for simplicity.

Besides, United can't even get leap years and time zones right. You think they can handle a rolling qualification?
