GSP-IAD-STT award won't price (due to MCT)

GSP-IAD-STT award won't price (due to MCT)

Can anyone answer why United website doesn't show this as a valid option when saver awards are available on both flights?
GSP-IAD 10am arrives 11:34 am (operated by trans-states airlines dba united airlines)
IAD-STT 12:10pm - 5:04pm operated by united.

I tried calling united help desk, but I got no help at all. Would have been more useful if I asked a random person off the street, or at least quicker.

I don't think it is a connection time issue because I saw another flight available from GSP-ORD, then ORD-IAD, which arrived in IAD at 11:39am and connected to the same IAD-STT flight. Does it have something to do with the "trans-states airlines?"

Someone will chime in regarding the minimum connection time in IAD - for both regional to international and for mainline to international.

It might be that regional to international MCT is 0.75 hours, while mainline to international is .50 hours (30 minutes) and hence why it can't be booked.

Of course, if both are .75 hours, your flight is still below 45 minute MCT.

Yes, USVI is domestic going there. Coming back you have to clear customs.

To answer the MCT question, try checking whether UA will sell you a GSP-IAD-STT revenue ticket on the same flights. We can't answer this for you because you haven't supplied the intended travel date (and flight timings can vary per day).

OP's outbound flight would be UA1709

Thanks you'all, always amazed at how much and how quick I get help here. United won't sell the ticket. It must be the regional airline vs mainline MCT. I thought it was strange that a flight from ORD that arrives 5 min after the regional flight is allowed. Never knew that about the different MCT.

The longer MCT is due to the UX flights that use A gates while the mainline and other UX use C&D gates.
